ABOUT RETOOL

Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.

Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!

WHY WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU

Retool has had immense growth in the last few years including landing a third of the Fortune 100. As we mature our GTM motion, we’re looking to bring on our first Value Engineer to play a pivotal role in building and shaping our value selling motion.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, product, and customer success to deliver strategic insights and develop business cases that demonstrate the value of Retool to customers. Your expertise will help define the tools, processes and methodologies that guide our value-based selling approach. You will actively contribute to its growth, working alongside leadership to scale processes and provide meaningful financial and strategic analyses that support sales engagements.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

This role will report to our Head of Global Sales Engineering and closely partner with the Head of Sales and Head of Technical Customer experience.

You’ll be joining a broader team of Retools who are passionate about serving our customers, enjoy collaborating to build an incredibly innovative product, and partake in some occasional but well-intentioned sarcasm. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Function Development Support: Collaborate with leadership to contribute to the design and implementation of the Value Engineering function, providing input on processes, tools, and methodologies
  • Value-Based Selling: Support sales teams by delivering value-driven conversations and materials, helping to articulate the business value of our solutions in terms of measurable outcomes
  • Customer Engagement: Partner with prospects and customers to create tailored business cases, financial models, and ROI assessments that facilitate value-focused sales discussions
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product, marketing, and customer success teams to ensure a consistent alignment between our offerings and the value delivered to customers
  • Strategic Influence: Present and communicate value propositions and business cases to customer executives, leveraging data and insights to influence key decision-makers
  • Enablement & Training: Help to enable sales teams by contributing to the development and delivery of training materials focused on value-based selling. Ensure consistent adoption of these practices across the organization
  • Metrics & Reporting: Contribute to defining key performance metrics and monitoring the success of the Value Engineering initiatives. Provide regular updates on ROI, sales outcomes, and time-to-close improvements
  • Process Optimization: Assist in the development and refinement of tools and templates to streamline business case creation, financial modeling, and customer presentations

THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in business, marketing, sales, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in value engineering (optional additional experience in management consulting, or a similar strategic role is a plus)
  • Experience in creating a Value Engineering function from the ground up, and a passion for building
  • Extensive experience working with Fortune 500 customers in a value engineering capacity to uncover, quantify and defend ROI
  • Strong verbal and written communication of qualitative and quantitative business cases
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and levels of the organization (internal and external)
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong focus on results
