About this role

The BlackRock Global Markets – US iShares Capital Markets team is responsible for growing, protecting, and advancing the trading of the US iShares ETF platform. The team leads all aspects of primary and secondary market ETF trading and plays a critical role in safeguarding market quality across a diverse and expanding product set. We actively identify, analyze, and mitigate trading frictions that may impact ETF investors, while partnering with liquidity providers, exchanges, regulators, and internal stakeholders to strengthen and evolve the ETF ecosystem.

Your role and impact

The Vice President position is based in New York and will play a leadership role in the management and oversight of the ETF Primary Market platform, with accountability for daily order flow, risk management, and platform integrity across market environments. This role serves as a senior conduit between external trading firms, market infrastructure providers, portfolio management, product teams, and internal control partners.

The VP is expected to bring ETF ecosystem expertise across asset classes, with particular focus on complex products, stressed market conditions, and evolving market structure. Protecting the primary market platform through proactive risk identification and decisive action is a core responsibility, including leadership during periods of heightened volatility or operational disruption.

In addition to day‑to‑day platform oversight, this role will drive strategic initiatives that improve market efficiency, reduce friction, and expand ecosystem participation. The VP will be expected to influence outcomes across functions, help set direction for the team, and contribute to the continued evolution of iShares’ primary market capabilities.

Your responsibilities

  • Act as a senior risk owner for the ETF primary market platform, ensuring robust controls and protecting ETF shareholders across market conditions.

  • Provide leadership in managing daily primary market activity, including oversight of order taking, risk exposures, and operational escalations.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in ETF trading and market structure, advising internal partners and external participants on complex trading, basket construction, and liquidity considerations.

  • Lead engagement with external liquidity providers and Authorized Participants, strengthening strategic relationships and driving initiatives that improve trading efficiency, participation, and resilience.

  • Partner closely with portfolio managers, product development, legal, compliance, and operations to influence product design, basket policy, and trading process enhancements.

  • Drive cross‑functional initiatives with technology and platform teams, helping prioritize, test, and implement enhancements to the primary market platform and supporting infrastructure.

  • Analyze ETF trading and flow data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and translate insights into actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders.

  • Act as a point of escalation and decision‑maker during market events, applying sound judgment under pressure and coordinating responses across internal and external partners.

  • Contribute to the development of junior talent through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and leadership by example.

You have…

  • 5–10 years of relevant industry experience with strong knowledge of ETF primary and secondary trading, and ETF market infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated experience managing risk, making decisions under pressure, and understanding downstream impacts across products and platforms.

  • Proven ability to operate with a high degree of accountability, discretion, and judgment in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to influence across functions, seniorities, and external counterparties.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience communicating complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and change, paired with a proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset.

  • Series 7 and 63 required (or ability to obtain post‑hire).

  • Prior ETF Capital Markets, trading, ETF servicing, or closely related experience strongly preferred.
