We are a vertically integrated real estate owner, developer, construction, and property management firm with a growing portfolio of commercial and residential assets. With approximately 150 employees across two Manhattan offices, our organization oversees every stage of the real estate lifecycle—from acquisitions and development through construction, asset management, property operations, and long-term ownership. Rather than focusing on a single segment of the industry, we operate across the full spectrum of real estate, giving our team exposure to complex transactions, diverse asset types, and every phase of the investment and development process.

Our integrated platform allows us to control projects from initial acquisition through development, construction, leasing, and ongoing operations. As we continue to grow our portfolio and expand our capabilities, we are investing in experienced leadership that can help strengthen our financial infrastructure, build scalable processes, and support the business through its next stage of growth. This is an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial organization where accounting plays a strategic role in the success of the business, not simply a back-office function.

We are seeking an experienced Vice President or Director of Accounting to lead our accounting function. The title and scope of the role will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience and leadership background.

This is a highly visible leadership position responsible for overseeing the accounting operations across our real estate ownership, development, construction, and property management businesses. We are looking for someone who understands the entire real estate ecosystem—not just one facet of it. The ideal candidate has seen the full accounting lifecycle across owned assets, development projects, construction activities, and property management operations, and is comfortable navigating the complexities that come with a fully integrated real estate platform.

This role offers the opportunity to become one of the senior financial leaders within the organization. While there is currently no CFO, the successful candidate will work closely with the Vice President of Asset Management, who oversees many of the executive finance functions, serving as a trusted partner in helping drive financial strategy, operational excellence, and sound decision-making across the business.

Beyond leading the accounting function, this individual will be expected to evaluate existing processes, strengthen internal controls, develop the accounting team, and build systems that can support continued growth. Depending on the level of hire, the successful candidate will manage a team of approximately 7 accounting professionals (Vice President level) or 3–4 accounting professionals (Director level). This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced real estate accounting leader who enjoys wearing multiple hats, partnering with executive leadership, and making a meaningful impact within a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple real estate entities.
  • Oversee accounting for property management, development, construction, and ownership activities.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review and approve financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
  • Oversee intercompany transactions, consolidations, and entity-level financial reporting.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and financial processes.
  • Partner with operations, development, construction, and asset management teams to provide financial insight and support strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate external audits and work with outside accountants, tax professionals, and other advisors.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation, process enhancements, and best practices.
  • Serve as a trusted financial leader within the organization and contribute to long-term organizational growth.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant leadership responsibilities.
  • Extensive experience within real estate, including a broad understanding of property ownership, property management, development, and construction accounting.
  • Experience managing accounting teams and developing high-performing staff.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, and internal controls.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple legal entities and complex accounting structures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership and cross-functional departments.
  • Experience in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, or privately held real estate organization is highly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $190,000–$250,000+ annually, depending on experience, seniority, and level of hire.
  • Comprehensive health benefits.
  • Hybrid schedule with Monday–Thursday in the office and work from home on Fridays.
  • 10 days of paid vacation // 5 paid sick days.
  • Opportunity to join a growing, vertically integrated real estate organization where you'll play a key leadership role and have a meaningful impact on the company's continued expansion.
