Job Summary:
The VP, Marketing Transformation will report directly to PayPal’s Chief Marketing & Corporate Affairs Officer and serve as the senior leader responsible for redefining how PayPal’s marketing organization operates – deploying AI at scale, building a modern technology and data infrastructure, and driving the capability development and change management that turns marketing into a best-in-class, future-ready function. The executive will serve as a critical member of the Marketing Leadership Team and a key driver of the marketing organization’s operational evolution.The VP, Head of Marketing Transformation will own the end-to-end transformation agenda for the marketing function, from technology stack modernization and AI adoption to workforce capability building and operating model redesign. This leader will partner closely with technology, data, finance, and people teams to drive structural and cultural change that enables PayPal’s marketing organization to operate with greater speed, intelligence, and impact.
Job Description:
- Define and lead the marketing transformation strategy, establishing a multi-year roadmap for how PayPal’s marketing organization will evolve its technology infrastructure, AI capabilities, data foundations, and operating model.
- Define, build and own Marketing’s AI strategic roadmap using case identification, prioritization, and adoption across the full function.
- Lead deployment across creative production, personalization, media optimization, and insights; build responsible-use governance frameworks in partnership with enterprise AI team.
- Own marketing technology architecture; lead evaluation and implementation of MarTech stack including CDP, CMS, and automation platforms.
- Define next-gen personalization, real-time marketing, CRM, and segmentation requirements; drive 1P/3P data strategy with IT, Privacy, and Legal.
- Assess capability gaps against best-in-class benchmark; build learning programs and change management infrastructure to close them at scale.
- Serve as the primary change management leader for the marketing function, developing and executing change strategies that drive adoption of new tools, processes, and ways of working across a large, globally distributed marketing organization.
- Partner with the Chief Marketing & Corporate Affairs Officer and Marketing Leadership Team to evolve the marketing operating model through process redesign, workflow automation, and structural change.
- Lead full-funnel performance marketing analytics and ROI measurement, partner with SVP, Marketing Operations on measurement frameworks and investment governance.
- Collaborate with Finance to develop investment cases for transformation initiatives, manage transformation budgets, and ensure disciplined resource allocation in support of strategic priorities.
- Serve as a thought leader on marketing innovation, translating emerging AI, technology, and operating model trends into actionable strategies.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Marketing Transformation team with deep expertise across AI, martech, data, change management, and organizational capability building.
- Represent the marketing transformation agenda with executive leadership and key stakeholders, communicating strategy, progress, and outcomes with clarity and conviction.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing transformation, marketing operations, technology strategy within large-scale, global, and highly matrixed organizations.
- 8+ years serving as a senior leader responsible for driving organizational transformation, technology modernization, or capability development within a complex technology or financial services organization.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI adoption and deployment within marketing or related functions, including identifying use cases, managing implementation, driving adoption, and measuring business impact.
- Deep understanding of modern marketing technology and data infrastructure, including martech stack architecture, CDP and data management platforms, marketing automation, analytics and measurement tools, and AI-powered marketing platforms.
- Experience leading transformation initiatives across both consumer and business organizations, ideally within B2B2C, marketplace, platform, commerce, or ecosystem-based business models.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering measurable business impact through AI adoption, operating model redesign, capability building, and technology modernization.
- Strong experience in capability development and workforce transformation.
- Demonstrated experience presenting transformation strategies and progress to executive leadership teams, CEO staff, and Boards of Directors of publicly traded companies.
- Proven ability to build cross-functional alignment and drive outcomes in highly matrixed organizations, influencing technology, finance, people, and business teams without direct authority.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technology and operational concepts into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Highly collaborative leader with the ability to attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent across a range of disciplines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Technology, or a related field required; advanced degree strongly preferred.
