Summary:
eCapital is seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-oriented Vice President of Business Development to lead and scale our Transportation Business Development team. This leader will be responsible for developing and executing growth strategies that expand eCapital's market presence, generate high-quality referral opportunities, and drive sustainable revenue growth across the organization.

The VP of Business Development will lead a high-performing team responsible for cultivating relationships with key referral sources, strategic partners, industry associations, consultants, and other influential stakeholders. Working in close partnership with the Head of Sales, this leader will work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Credit, Underwriting, and Executive Leadership to identify, pursue, and capitalize on new business opportunities that accelerate company growth.
The ideal candidate combines strong leadership capabilities, deep relationship-building expertise, strategic thinking, learning agility, and a proven track record of driving measurable revenue results within financial services, specialty finance, factoring, asset-based lending, or related industries. This individual will be able to quickly build a broad understanding of eCapital's customers, products, operations, economics, and risk environment and take on increasing scope as the business grows.
Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with eCapital's broader business and growth objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, referral channels, and revenue streams.
  • Create and implement annual business development plans, goals, and performance metrics.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to company-wide growth initiatives and bringing a broader business perspective to decision-making.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive dynamics, and market developments to identify emerging opportunities.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Sales to help shape growth priorities, challenge thinking constructively, and maintain momentum on key initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Business Development team to achieve ambitious growth objectives and build capability for future scale.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, accountability measures, and professional development plans.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top business development talent.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, innovation, and customer-centricity.
  • Implement best practices, processes, tools, and operating disciplines to improve team effectiveness and scalability.
Partnership & Referral Network Growth
  • Build and expand relationships with strategic referral partners, including brokers, consultants, advisors, private equity firms, banks, and industry associations.
  • Develop partnership programs that increase referral volume and quality, while exploring new and non-traditional routes to market.
  • Represent eCapital at industry conferences, networking events, and executive-level meetings.
  • Establish eCapital as a preferred financial solutions partner within target markets.
Revenue & Pipeline Development
  • Drive the creation of qualified opportunities that contribute to revenue growth across all business lines.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Sales and Sales leadership to ensure effective prioritization, handoff, and conversion of opportunities.
  • Develop programs that increase market penetration and customer acquisition.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators, pipeline activity, partner engagement, and revenue contribution.
  • Leverage data and analytics to optimize business development strategies, improve decision-making, and support growth at scale.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Marketing to develop campaigns that support market expansion and partner engagement.
  • Work with Product, Operations, Credit, and Risk teams to align growth initiatives with operational capabilities, business economics, and risk considerations.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership to identify acquisition, strategic alliance, expansion, and other enterprise growth opportunities.
  • Champion customer and partner feedback to improve products, services, and customer experience.
Qualifications:
Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive business development, sales leadership, partnership, or broader business leadership experience.
  • 5+ years leading and developing high-performing business development or revenue-generating teams.
  • Demonstrated success building strategic partnerships and referral networks that produce measurable revenue growth.
  • Strong understanding of financial services, commercial finance, asset-based lending, factoring, working capital solutions, fintech, or related industries, with the ability to quickly learn new products, markets, operating models, and risk considerations.
  • Proven track record of exceeding growth and revenue targets, influencing across functions, and translating strategy into execution.
  • Experience in Canada preferred.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience within factoring, freight finance, asset-based lending, equipment finance, commercial banking, or specialty finance.
  • Established industry network within key eCapital target markets.
  • Experience leading business development teams and partnering closely with senior sales leadership on growth priorities.
