GlassesUSA.com secured $45MThe company is a subsidiary of Optimax Eyewear, and it provides customers with prescription and non-prescription glasses at affordable prices. With the fresh cash from Tene Investment Fund, the online retailer plans to fund future expansion plans including a U.S.-based fulfillment center, furthered research and development as well as broadened customer service solutions. NYC is investing $38M in biotechAs part of an initiative to establish the city as a public health destination, city officials are planning to invest in applied R&D facilities at Columbia University, Montefiore-Einstein, the New York Stem Cell Foundation and Rockefeller University. Amazon opens another Bronx locationThe e-commerce giant’s new delivery station is located at 1055 Bronx River Ave. and spans 205,000 square feet. The Soundview location creates 140 job openings for full- and part-time employees, as well as hundreds of driver opportunities. Amazon is also planning on opening yet another Bronx location at Hunts Point at 511 Barry Street. [Bronx Times]
