The transition to a world fueled by digital technology has made the tech job market undeniably hot and competitive. More often than not, tech companies have generous approaches to remote-friendly work, benefits and pay which positions them to be of interest to job seekers.

Tech jobs are not only well sought after, but the number of openings are surging as well. A recent report from CompTIA, an educational technology platform, ranked New York City as the number one metro area in the U.S. with the most tech jobs posted in June.

The Big Apple listed over 31,000 job opportunities last month, according to the report. Other cities that ranked on CompTIA’s report for the most tech roles posted in June include Washington, D.C.; Dallas; Los Angeles and Chicago.

An arguably large contributor to New York’s high ranking may be accredited to the city’s bustling tech startup community. In June, insurance tech provider Ledger Investing pulled in funding to fuel a hiring spree of 200 employees. Similar hiring metrics exist at Nomad Health, an online marketplace that connects healthcare workers with temporary positions and is hiring for 300 employees after raising $105 million in funding late last month.

As of 2020, Tech:NYC reported there are over 9,000 NYC-based startups, valuing the tech town ecosystem at $147 billion. While big-name companies who have roots in NYC, like Deloitte — which was ranked on CompTIA’s report as the third largest contributor to tech job listings last month — Etsy and Trello are undeniably successful as large players, it’s clear that the local startup ecosystem is attracting company growth and fueling mass hiring initiatives across the metro.
