NYU selected as home to NYC’s virtual/alternate reality hub
NYU's Tandon School of Engineering is now home to a virtual/alternate reality hub, funded by the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and NYC's Economic Development Corporation. It will nurture companies that rely on AR/VR and help mark the city as a destination for the new technology. Several institutions were being considered, but NYU was chosen for its vast experience in the space. [Engadget]

Coworking space and tech startup accelerator Grand Central Tech is celebrating its fourth year. Located near — you guessed it — Grand Central, the hub announced its latest class of startups. Companies include 18 tech startups across a multitude of industries. [TechCrunch]

On-demand trucking provider Transfix raised a $42M Series C funding round. The company was founded back in 2013 to provide an online marketplace that matches shipments with available trucks, and its future is brighter than ever. [Built In NYC]
Care/of, $12 million.
Investors: Juxtapose, RRE Ventures, Goodwater Capital, Tusk Ventures, Bullish
Vitamin and supplement company Care/of announced the completion of a $12 million Series A financing round. This brings their total funding to $15 million. Led by Goodwater Capital, the money will help continue the company’s growth. [Press release]
