Walmart buys Jet for $3.3B
E-commerce upstart Jet, which launched just over a year ago, has been acquired by retail giant Walmart for $3.3 billion in cash and stock. The brands will remain separate, but Jet’s e-commerce tech will likely help boost Walmart’s online strength as Amazon continues to grow. Koko launches integrated bot, announces $2.5M in funding
Koko is using AI to make therapy more accessible, and they just announced a $2.5 million funding round to reach that goal faster. The cognitive therapy startup also unveiled a new, integrated bot that works with Facebook Messenger, Kik and Telegram. The bot allows users to get peer-sourced advice, moderated by AI-driven KokoBot. [Mobi Health News]
Kaltura plans expansion after raising $50M
Video technology provider Kaltura announced a $50 million investment from Goldman Sachs’ Private Capital Investing group. The new funding will help it expand internationally, providing video monetization and over-the-top TV service for more customers. [Built In NYC]
New York governor makes FanDual, DraftKings legal again
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill legalizing fantasy sports, allowing sites like DraftKings and FanDual to operate in the state again after the sites were outlawed late last year. The law, which was passed by the state congress back in June, regulates the industry and adds a tax to such platforms to help fund education in the state. [TechCrunch]
