Oversee daily virology and molecular pathology laboratory operations, including clinical testing, quality control, troubleshooting, compliance, inventory, scheduling, staff training, and performance improvement. Perform laboratory procedures, review and archive QC results, maintain statistics, coordinate administrative activities, and support timely testing. Requires a New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License, bachelor’s degree, ASCP certification or equivalent, and substantial laboratory and supervisory experience.
The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Supervisor / TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist 1, Virology & Molecular Pathology. The successful candidate will:
- Maintain compliance with departmental, hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Function as Assistant Supervisor responsible for the operation of a laboratory.
- Oversee day to day laboratory operations, review quality control, performance improvement activities.
- Performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations and any other tests or procedures conducted by the virology and molecular labs.
- Demonstrate good knowledge of quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting on virology and molecular instruments.
- Assure timely performance of laboratory testing procedures.
- Train personnel in technical methodologist and interpretation of result.
- Record and archive operation test and QC results.
- Maintain inventory and statistics.
- Schedule and assign staff to specific job functions.
- Assist in coordinating administrative operations for the laboratories.
- Demonstrate flexibility and perform other job-related tasks as needed/required, as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description.
Required Qualifications
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
- Bachelor of Science Degree and 6-years of experience; including 2-years of supervisory/administrative capacity.
- ASCP certification or equivalent.
- Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-years of supervisory experience in microbiology laboratories.
