Job Description

About the Role

If you're an early-career attorney who loves contracts, negotiations, and solving real business problems, this is an opportunity to take what you've learned in private practice and put it to work inside a growing healthcare technology company.

You'll work directly with our COO/General Counsel and leaders across ALIS, getting a front-row seat to how a technology business actually operates. You'll help negotiate commercial agreements, support transactions, navigate new business opportunities, manage risk, and solve the everyday legal challenges that come with building and growing a company. You'll see the impact of your advice, learn how decisions get made, and develop the practical business judgment that is difficult to gain from the outside.

For someone looking to build a career as in-house counsel, we think this is a pretty special opportunity. You'll have meaningful responsibility early, exposure across the business, and the chance to grow your role alongside the company. And you'll do it at a company serving senior living, where the technology we build ultimately supports the people caring for older adults every day.

We're looking for someone who cares about the craft of the law, is curious about business, wants to keep learning, and gets excited about using their legal skills to help people and the company move forward.

The Basics

Location: Chicago-based.

Schedule: Fully remote work is not available, but flexible or hybrid schedules may be available based on performance milestones. Please note that this role is expected to work on-site for the first 90 days of their employment.

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000

Bar Admission: Licensed attorney in good standing. Illinois admission or eligibility for admission in Illinois preferred.

Sponsorship: We are not able to provide employment sponsorship, including OPT or STEM OPT.

How to Apply: A brief cover letter telling us what excites you about this opportunity.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide variety of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor agreements, NDAs, employment agreements, and partnership arrangements

  • Partner directly with business stakeholders to understand priorities, identify risks, and move agreements to completion

  • Balance legal protection with practical business outcomes

  • Improve contract templates, clause libraries, playbooks, and approval processes

  • Identify opportunities to reduce friction and accelerate routine legal work

  • Support corporate transactions and related legal workstreams

  • Assist with corporate governance, entity management, and compliance initiatives

  • Serve as a day-to-day legal resource for teams across ALIS

  • Help stakeholders understand risks, tradeoffs, and practical paths forward

  • Build strong working relationships that make Legal a trusted partner rather than a final checkpoint

  • Participate in special projects as business needs evolve

  • Coordinate and collaborate with outside counsel/law firms on specialized projects and initiatives

Qualifications

You'll Thrive in This Role If You

  • Have 2-3 years of corporate legal experience at a law firm.

  • Are a genuinely joyful, optimistic, collaborative, hardworking, and caring human.

  • Are a licensed attorney in good standing.

  • Have meaningful experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.

  • Enjoy contracts and negotiations and take pride in producing thoughtful, well-crafted work.

  • Know when to escalate an issue and when to make a recommendation.

  • Are comfortable working with ambiguity and building new processes where none exist today.

  • Communicate clearly with both legal and non-legal audiences.

  • Take ownership, follow through, and enjoy solving problems.

What Success Looks Like

  • Contracts move efficiently without sacrificing quality, judgment, or risk management.

  • Business teams view Legal as a trusted partner who helps move work forward.

  • Contract templates, playbooks, and processes reduce friction and improve consistency.

  • Legal risks are identified early and addressed with practical, business-minded judgment.

  • Stakeholders know when and how to engage Legal because expectations are clear.

  • You develop a deep understanding of the business and become a trusted advisor across the organization.

  • Your scope, influence, and ownership grow alongside the company.
