POSITION SUMMARY
Case management is offered during class time and is mostly in-person. The Case Managers occasionally work when classes are not in session. The SPELL Program runs two semesters a year (Fall and Spring). There are no summer classes or summer Case Manager hours between June - August.
All classes and case management take place onsite at Hunter College, unless prearranged with students via online platform.
The schedule for this position is Saturdays from 9:00am - 4:00pm. There is some flexibility with the schedule and possibility of staggering in-person attendance. This schedule does not include outreach to students during the week which is done on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities include:
- Advise and support English language learners in Adult Literacy classes
- Counsel students on career prospects, academic goals, and personal concerns, while ensuring confidentiality
- Identify and establish joint referral relationships with relevant social service agencies, community-based organizations, and with Workforce1 centers
- Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals to social services and other agencies
- Awareness of the barriers facing immigrants looking to integrate into the US workforce and academic environment
- Provide crisis intervention when needed
- Track student progress, attendance and satisfaction, while completing required data entry tasks on rosters and possibly on ASISTS database
- Help students with mapping their career plans, including related academic and personal goals using EEP form
- Work closely with instructors and administrative staff to meet program compliance, including the monitoring and documentation of progress and outcomes for both current and former students
- Attend 14 hours of RAEN Professional Development per fiscal year
- Ad hoc duties as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field
- At least one year of experience in case management, advising, counseling, or student support services
- Experience working with adult learners, immigrants, or linguistically diverse populations
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records, complete required documentation, and reply to emails in a timely manner
- Comfort using technology for data entry and communication (e.g., Google Workspace, NYSED databases, online platforms)
- Ability to work onsite at Hunter College on Saturdays
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in Social Work or Psychology
- Familiarity with WIOA-funded programs and performance accountability requirements
- Experience using ASISTS or similar workforce/data tracking systems
- Knowledge of NYC social service systems and Workforce1 Career Centers
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities (especially languages commonly spoken by NYC adult learners)
- Experience collaborating with instructional staff in educational settings
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
- Expected hours: Saturdays during the academic year, with limited additional hours as needed
- Professional development hours are compensated in accordance with program policy
SUPERVISION
- The ENL Case Manager reports to the Adult Literacy Program Manager
PHYSICAL AND LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to be present onsite for Saturday programming
- Ability to work in classroom and office settings
- Ability to use a computer for documentation, communication, and data entry
- Occasional off-schedule communication with students and manager via email, text or phone
Pay Range:
$40 to $40 per hour
