Overview:

Ketchum is looking for a Insights and Strategic Research Consultant! 

Ketchum has the largest research and analytics team in the Communications and Public Relations industry, fluent in the various streams of communications measurement, insights generation, analytics and strategic research. Analytics is fully embedded in the agency, and central to everything the agency does. From traditional media analysis, social and digital analytics/SEO, quantitative and qualitative primary methodologies (e.g., surveys, focus groups), to audience insights, we are meeting the needs of clients with data-driven insights. Ketchum is set apart by our ability to understand that it’s not about being data-rich, but instead being data-smart to guide strategic opportunities for clients across the industry. 

About the Job 

This position will provide strategic, creative, and intellectually curious analytics enthusiasts the opportunity to learn all aspects of insights generation, analytics and research within the public relations and communications industry. In this role, you’ll assist your team with projects from inception to the presentation of results under the supervision of a seasoned manager. You’ll work closely with account teams across the globe, and clients across many different industries including Food, Financial, CPG, Manufacturing, Technology and Healthcare, to understand impact and provide guidance in the creation of data-driven strategies and tactics. 

Your day-to-day:   

  • Analyze full communications programming and measure impact across channels, such as paid media, social media, earned media, influencer, website, and search 
  • Support primary research projects (quantitative and qualitative) and secondary research with support from managers and senior staff 
  • Leverage a variety of tools, technology and secondary data sources to define and profile target audiences, predict trends, assess the industry and competitor landscape, analyze conversation, and identify white space opportunities for clients  
  • Partner with strategists, brand teams and different channel experts to ensure all research conducted ties to clear, actionable insights that guide communications/PR strategy  
  • Provide strategic consumer and business insights – not “data dumps” – to account teams and new business teams  

 

  • Distill findings that are insightful and actionable and meet client objectives via visually-appealing reports that tell a concise and clear story 
  • Understand clients’ objectives and ensure research and insights deliverables meet those needs  
  • Participate in the development of new and incremental business  
  • Get experience and exposure to the latest innovations in the industry in a highly collaborative environment 
  • Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s degree helpful or evidence of certifications/courses in the data analytics or communications/PR fields 
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related communications strategic insights, data, analytics and research experience; PR/communications measurement experience helpful 
  • A team mentality and desire to collaborate with co-workers across multiple geographies 
  • Ability to to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to anticipate next steps and take proactive action to move projects along 
  • Varied experience in understanding or supporting primary and secondary research projects 
  • Interest in learning new research technologies, tools and methods (including use of AI) 
  • Experience in Microsoft tools, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel 

Interest or expertise in the following a plus: 

  • Writing experience, particularly in understanding data and insights 
  • Website analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics  
  • Social media measurement and social media monitoring tools, such as Brandwatch, Talkwalker, Lexis Nexis, etc. etc. 
  • Search engine optimization or use of search tools  
  • Data visualization including Tableau, Google Data Studio or PowerBI 
  • Advanced excel skills such as pivot tables, vlookups or formulas  

The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $65,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, past training, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity and local geographic market data.  A range of medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and/or other benefits also are available.
