About David Energy

David Energy is creating a new kind of power company. Traditional Retail Electricity Providers (REPs) are outdated, opaque, and painful for customers to engage with. We use software to monitor our customers' real-time energy usage, and we aggregate and analyze that data to maximize the value they get from their energy assets – batteries, EVs, HVAC systems and other distributed energy resources (DERs) via participation in energy markets. Our mission is to run the grid on clean energy 24/7.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive Senior Manager of Finance / Controller to lead David Energy’s Center of Excellence for all accounting, cash management, and financial reporting functions. Initially reporting to our COO, this role will manage our outsourced accounting and tax vendors, oversee AP/AR workflows, own our annual audit, support equity and debt financing processes, maintain a centralized finance calendar to ensure that all compliance and reporting deadlines are met, and serve as a strategic partner to our broader leadership team. You’ll be the operational core of the finance team, ensuring financial accuracy, discipline, and readiness as the company scales.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting

    • Present financial performance to management on a monthly basis, covering variances and key takeaways from our financial statements

    • Deliver unaudited monthly GAAP-compliant financial statements

    • Manage outsourced accounting team and internal resources to improve processes and drive an efficient monthly close

    • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting packages

  • Audit

    • Manage the annual financial statement audit process end-to-end

    • Prepare clear management discussion & analysis

    • Coordinate deliverables with auditors, internal stakeholders, and the outsourced accounting team

    • Manage audit-ready documentation, process integrity, and year-end schedules

  • Cash Management & Treasury

    • Oversee cash flow, disbursements, and treasury operations

    • Manage banking relationships and optimize liquidity management

  • Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

    • Oversee accounts payable entered by the operations team, ensuring accurate and timely disbursements

    • Supervise accounts receivable processes owned by the billing team, ensuring accurate reconciliation and revenue accounting

  • Tax & Compliance

    • Manage outsourced tax partners to ensure timely filing of tax returns

    • Coordinate sales tax, franchise tax, and other compliance requirements

    • Maintain a centralized record of all filings and ensure integration into the finance calendar

  • Fundraising & Debt Facility Support

    • Manage lender reporting, covenant tracking, and support future debt facility renewals or expansions

    • Support financial diligence efforts for equity fundraising, including data room upkeep and reporting

  • Finance Calendar & Process Discipline

    • Build and maintain a centralized Finance Calendar covering monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables

    • Ensure internal and external deadlines — board reports, tax filings, audit milestones, covenant reports — are tracked and met

    • Identify and implement process improvements to accelerate close and reporting timelines

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a fast-paced environment, and having managed an accounting function for 3+ years with a sharp understanding of best practices and seen what “good” looks like

  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and financial statement preparation

  • Experience managing annual audits and outsourced accounting/tax providers

  • Familiarity with treasury operations, lender reporting, and investor communications

  • Strong project management and communication skills, especially around reporting and timelines

  • Proficiency with Excel and familiarity with tools like QuickBooks, Ramp, and billing systems

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or related field preferred

  • MBA or CPA preferred but not required

  • Deep understanding of the energy industry and emerging technologies is a plus

  • Excited about our mission to run the grid on clean energy 24/7

Benefits

  • Base salary of $160,000–$190,000 plus equity in a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors

  • Group medical and dental insurance

  • 401k

  • Flexible vacation/PTO policy

  • Flexible work model (NYC office with fully remote candidates welcome)
