Controller

The Controller will play a mission-critical role in owning and building all accounting operations at ShopMy. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will oversee the full accounting cycle, ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements, and establish financial best practices as we continue scaling rapidly. Financial Reporting & Close Operations

• Lead and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with speed and accuracy.
• Prepare and maintain financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Develop scalable accounting policies, procedures, and controls to support business growth.
• Ensure accurate application of SaaS revenue recognition principles (ASC 606) and deferred revenue tracking.

Compliance, Tax, and Audit Management

• Own all federal, state, and local tax compliance and regulatory filings, including sales and franchise taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
• Set up and maintain new legal entities and manage all associated state and federal filings.
• Oversee the preparation and submission of all entity-level filings.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure smooth, timely audit cycles.

Billing, AR/AP, and Operational Accounting

• Oversee the invoicing, collections, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions.
  Continuously improve operational accounting processes to enhance speed, accuracy, and compliance.
• Maintain and evolve internal controls across all financial operations.
• Monitor daily cash positions and cash flow forecasting to support operational needs.

Process Improvement and Systems Ownership

• Identify and implement automation opportunities and best-in-class processes for accounting operations.
• Evaluate, select, and maintain financial systems to support a scaling business (experience with QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems is preferred).

• CPA
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• 2+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
• Public accounting experience is preferred but not required.
• Proven success at a high-growth startup (Series A–C) or high-growth private company.
• Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, technical accounting (including ASC 606), tax compliance, and operational accounting.
• Proven experience managing audits and establishing internal controls.
• Strong working knowledge of accounting software platforms (e.g., Xero, NetSuite) and a systems mindset.
• Highly organized with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
• Experience working with SaaS revenue models, deferred revenue management, and recurring revenue metrics (ARR, churn) is highly preferred.
