Lead and scale Nitra's accounting function, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, managing audits, building processes, and leading a team in a high-growth fintech environment.
Who we are:
Nitra's mission is to build a more efficient healthcare system and the technology that makes it possible. Our goal is to provide an ecosystem of fintech and software solutions that help doctors better manage their practices, so they can have time back to focus on what matters to them most.
We operate with urgency, intensity, and ambition. The bar is high because the opportunity is massive. We expect excellence, ownership, and intellectual rigor from every team member. We move fast, make bold decisions, and hold ourselves accountable to results. At the same time, we believe great companies are built on trust and respect. Every voice matters. Every contribution counts. When we win, we win together.
We are scaling rapidly and on a clear trajectory toward becoming a unicorn this year — and beyond. Our growth is not accidental; it’s the result of disciplined execution, relentless focus, and a team that refuses to settle. We are building a category-defining company, and we’re looking for people who want to do the most meaningful work of their careers.
If you want comfort, this isn’t the place.
If you want impact, ownership, and the chance to help build a generational fintech company, welcome.
Nitra was created by unicorn founders who have successfully scaled to thousands of customers and exited $1B+ public offerings. They are joined by an ambitious and experienced team from American Express, Citi, PayPal, Capsule, Plaid, Bloomberg, Meta, Facebook, and Mastercard. The team is backed by some of the world’s leading VCs (Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, etc.) and is supported by an expert group of advisors including the cofounders of Square and Xendit, executives from Intuit, former Governors, White House senior staffers, and a co-founder of CityMD.
Nitra maintains a hybrid work policy, with team members working from the office four days per week and Wednesdays designated as a work-from-home day.
We're looking for:
A Controller to lead and scale Nitra’s accounting function during a pivotal phase of growth. This is a high-impact leadership role for a technically strong and hands-on finance professional who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and is excited by the opportunity to build processes and infrastructure from the ground up.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in US GAAP, audit readiness, and technical accounting, along with experience building and leading accounting teams in high-growth startup environments. You will own the accounting function end-to-end, ensure financial integrity and operational rigor, and help establish the foundation required to scale into a category-defining fintech company.
This role reports directly to senior finance leadership and will be based in New York City or Washington, DC.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Lead and continuously improve the full-cycle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
- Build scalable accounting processes, controls, and workflows from scratch to support rapid growth
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation standards
- Serve as the primary lead for external audits, including audit preparation, workpapers, schedules, and auditor coordination
- Drive technical accounting analysis and provide clear guidance on complex accounting matters
- Partner cross-functionally with leadership across finance, operations, legal, and product teams
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and ERP platforms, including potential transitions or upgrades
- Lead, mentor, and scale the accounting team over time, creating structure, rigor, and accountability
- Support strategic initiatives including due diligence, fundraising support, treasury processes, and financial infrastructure buildout
- Ensure compliance with all applicable US GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements
You have:
- CPA required
- 8+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2+ years as a Controller or in an equivalent leadership role
- Deep expertise in US GAAP and technical accounting
- Proven experience managing full-scope external audits
- Strong background in both public accounting/audit and corporate accounting, ideally including startup experience
- Demonstrated success building accounting processes and controls from the ground up
- Experience owning full-cycle month-end close
- Proven track record of building and leading accounting teams
- Experience with QuickBooks and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or similar platforms
- Strong ability to explain complex accounting concepts in simple, actionable terms
- Experience in fintech, healthcare, or other regulated industries
- Experience leading an ERP implementation or migration
- Treasury and cash management experience
- Experience automating accounting workflows and reporting
- Experience supporting company fundraising or diligence processes
- Prior startup or high-growth company experience
