Role Overview:
As part of our Technology organization, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking initiatives that shape New York Life's (NYL) digital landscape. Leverage cutting-edge technologies like Generative AI to increase productivity, streamline processes, and create seamless experiences for clients, agents, and employees. Your expertise fuels innovation, agility, and growth - driving the company's success.
As the Cloud Site Reliability Engineering Services Leader, you will create a value-added shared service to the NYL Application Development Community enabling faster time to market for releasing new business capabilities. You will lead a team of engineers devoted to creating, maintaining, curating, and modernizing the AWS hosted platforms that support NYL's software and system deployments. The scope of applications ranges from line of business specific, to security oriented, to centralized corporate functions. The platforms are varied and leverage ~160 AWS Services in varying capacities.
NYL is aggressively modernizing and standardizing the fleet of application system deployments, which requires active leadership and the ability to transform our technology landscape to leverage best practices, automation, and standardized configurations. The team will build shared infrastructure services and reusable infrastructure platforms as products, enabling application teams to consume secure, standardized AWS infrastructure through automation and self-service capabilities. NYL is also aggressively adopting Generative AI and Agentic AI capabilities to streamline the services provided by the technology organization.
What You'll Do:
• Drive the team towards excellence in the solutions they develop and deliver
• Manage and monitor the efficiency of the team, identifying and developing opportunities for improvement
• Identify opportunities for the use of GenAI and Agentic AI within the scope of the team's responsibilities, freeing the team to focus on more important work
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, drive engineering best practices, and collaborate closely with software development teams
• Develop and foster relationships with the stakeholders (application system owners), managing expectations, priorities, and delivery
• Modernize and normalize the fleet of application systems with a focus on resiliency and reliability, operational excellence, availability, operational excellence, security, and cost
• Be a leader within the organization by setting the standard on the use of automation, including IaC, CI/CD Pipelines, and Artifact Management
• Establish and govern reusable Terraform modules and standardized AWS infrastructure patterns, including versioning and lifecycle management, to enable consistent and repeatable infrastructure deployments.
• Build and mature self-service infrastructure provisioning capabilities that allow application teams to consume approved AWS infrastructure patterns within enterprise guardrails.
• Architect, provision, and maintain cloud resources using Terraform, Harness, Jfrog, and other enterprise platforms.
• Reduce manual toil by building robust deployment pipelines and automation using Harness CI/CD
• Set Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs); track error budgets to balance feature delivery with system stability
• Lead triage and resolution for high-severity production issues, conducting blameless post-mortems and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Implement monitoring, logging, and tracing tools (e.g., Amazon CloudWatch, NewRelic)
• Drive infrastructure resiliency and participate in disaster recovery planning and validation in partnership with application and operations teams.
Business and Technology Skills:
• Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and persuade business and IT leaders and IT development teams to adopt automation and delivery pipelines
• Displays empathy for the software development community and champions continuous improvement to optimize the end-to-end software delivery process
• Partner with the Cloud Platform, Development Tools, Security, and other technology teams within the organization to drive roadmaps to enable the SRE team
• Create and maintain a culture of open communication, trust, excellence, and recognition
• Ability to translate cloud architecture, security, compliance, and governance standards into scalable infrastructure patterns and automated engineering solutions.
• Proficiency and experience with Terraform HCL (IaC)
• Strong foundation in OS performance tuning, networking, and security troubleshooting
What You'll Bring:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
• One or more AWS Professional Certifications, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect preferred
• Practical experience in developing and deploying ML/AI driven developer experiences
• In depth technical knowledge of Kubernetes, AWS Services, Terraform, and one or more software development frameworks
• 8+ years in IT/DevOps/SRE with 3+ years in a technical leadership or senior role
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $185,000-$264,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
