The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the leading national voice for dignity, respect, and recognition for domestic workers in the United States. NDWA was founded in 2007 by organizers and worker leaders in six cities representing nannies, house cleaners, and care workers, and now represents an alliance of more than 76 organizations across 22 states and 395,000 domestic workers nationally.

Position Summary:

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (www.domesticworkers.org) organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition, and labor standards. Through leadership development, strategic campaigns, and alliance building, we are building a powerful movement for social and global justice.

The Director of Finance (501(c)(3) – NDWA) supports the VP, Finance in providing strategic financial oversight for NDWA's 501(c)(3) entity, ensuring financial health, compliance, and sustainability. This role leads financial planning, grants management, budgeting, and financial reporting for NDWA's charitable activities; delivers quarterly forecasts, budget variance analyses, and multi-year financial models; and supervises finance staff supporting day-to-day operations, month-end and year-end close, and audit readiness under GAAP. Working in close coordination with the Director of Finance (501(c)(4) & PAC) at Care in Action, this position ensures alignment and financial integrity across NDWA (501(c)(3)) and Care in Action (501(c)(4) and Super PAC).

• Play a leading role in the annual budgeting process for NDWA’s 501(c)(3), collaborating with program and development teams to align financial strategy with organizational priorities.

• Provide quarterly financial forecasts, budget variance analyses, and multi-year financial models to support strategic planning.

• Support the VP, Finance and leadership team in developing financial strategies that ensure long-term sustainability for NDWA’s charitable mission.

• Ensure strong internal financial policies are in place and aligned with nonprofit best practices and GAAP compliance.

• Manage financial tracking, reporting, and compliance for government, foundation, and private grants, ensuring funds are allocated correctly.

• Monitor restricted vs. unrestricted funding, ensuring proper fund release and financial reporting for grantors.

• Coordinates and supports fundraising budgets and reports, supporting NDWA’s development team in tracking and projecting revenue.

• In partnership with the Deputy Controller, perform day-to-day financial operations, ensuring all revenue, expenses, and financial transactions are accurately recorded.

• Supports timely month-end and year-end close processes for NDWA’s 501(c)(3).

• Supports compliance with IRS regulations, nonprofit financial reporting requirements, and audit readiness.

• Supports financial statement preparation for annual audits and responses to auditor inquiries.

• Work closely with the Director of Finance (Care in Action) to ensure seamless financial coordination between NDWA (501c3) and Care in Action (501c4 & Super PAC).

• Support inter-organizational transfers and cost-sharing allocations between 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4), ensuring compliance with legal and financial regulations.

• Collaborate with the Care in Action finance team to align budgeting, reporting, and financial policies while maintaining appropriate entity distinctions.

• Supervise finance staff supporting NDWA’s 501(c)(3) operations.

• Partner with program, development, and executive leadership teams to provide financial guidance and oversight.

• Ensure NDWA’s financial policies and procedures are effectively implemented and continuously improved.

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.

• 5-8 years of experience in nonprofit financial management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

• Extensive experience in grant management, budget planning, and financial compliance for 501(c)(3) organizations.

• Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit audit requirements, and financial reporting for funders.

• Proficiency in Excel, Financial Edge, Martus, Salesforce, and other accounting systems.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
