Job Overview:

The Director of Operations drives  execution of processes in the store. The DO is focused on delivering sales and EBIT through supporting corporate, trade area, and store initiatives. The DO builds and cultivates a motivated, skilled and equipped management team.  The DO must be seen as a partner to the VP GM that understands, supports, and is responsive to the needs within the store pyramid.
The DO is responsible for implementing processes that will drive top line sales, manage expenses, develop efficiencies, and maximize EBIT improvement. This is achieved through managing and developing and influencing a team of strong executives and supervisors, ensuring best practices are executed, and guaranteeing we provide our customer with a consistently clean, neat, safe, and easy to shop environment to enhance the shopping experience.  Merchandise must be processed, presented, and maintained to the Bloomingdale’s standard. It is critical that the DO coaches, develops, and leads or influences all support leadership in processes, efficiencies, and profitability.    At the same time, the DO must bring significant influence over selling functions that are basic and impact daily operation, profitability, and the Customer Experience.  That influence should focus upon, but not be limited to return behaviors and NCTs, replenishment, fulfillment, wrap standards, HUR, recovery, and NPS.
The critical responsibilities of the DO are to Develop the People and the Team, Build a Reputation of Bloomingdale’s as the “best place to work”, Cultivate a Service and Client focused Environment, Maintain a Clean, Neat, and Easy to Shop Environment, Achieve New Account Acquisition Goals and Loyalty Standards, Drive Sales Volume, Manage Expense and EBIT Performance, Manage Inventory Shortage and LP Standards, and Ensure Workload Completion thru the Management of Best Practices.

Qualifications and Competencies:

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Develop the People and the team.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain executive support professionals who are polished and professional representatives of the Bloomingdale’s Brand.  The support team must be equipped to support our upscale selling and service culture in a fast-paced promotional environment.   Success in this category will be measured by succession planning results and bench strength, along with low open-to-hire and retention.
  • Work in partnership with the TASDO and HRBP on strategic succession planning, for   support staff positions.
  • Drive business opportunities through effective and strategic placement and development of support talent.
  • Recognize performance above standard and celebrate with the individual and the team.
  • Proactively address skills, behaviors, and results that are below standard and develop and execute action plans to correct the deficiencies.  Partner with TASDO and HRBP to address lack of improvement through appropriate documentation and LDR tool as well as ACE.
  • Cultivate a strong business partnership with all executives.  Serve as a role model of “team” for the entire store.
  • Lead inclusion and diversity within the organization.

 

Drives Store Engagement 

  • Provide an open door to welcome concerns from coworkers from all levels and positions, and work to resolve issues.

  • Serve as the ultimate role model of outstanding service.  Consistently demonstrate the urgency of servicing the customer in a professional, polished, and knowledgeable manner:  every customer, every interaction, everyday.
  • Drive service and achieve success as measured by the Net Promoter Results. 
  • Ensure Brand Strategy initiatives are fully embraced by the store at all levels, through the appropriate communication and culture.
  • Ensure a clean, neat, easy-to-shop environment at all times for all customers, in fitting rooms and rest rooms, and in general housekeeping and merchandising standards.
  • Empower a cohesive team that is eager to serve.  Assure all support embrace our generalist approach to all work being done in the store.  Cross training is critical.

  3. Require and champion use of selling technology to support a seamless customer experience; ensure the team optimizes the use of tools and processes.

  5. Drive HUR compliance

Manager Inventory and Shortage Control

  • Take leadership role in managing the shortage reduction strategies to 100% compliance, including action plan development and implementation and HSS inventory execution.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with all merchandise protection standards.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with all Bloomingdale’s audit standards.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with all outbound merchandise Best Practices.
  • Cultivate strong business partnerships with the VP GM and selling leadership.

Ensure Workload Completion through  Management of Best Practices

  • Ensure 90% or better compliance in markdown execution, RTV completion, and job out completion.
  • Analyze Fed Ticket results daily, RTV daily progress reports, and monthly job out reports.  Address areas of non-compliance.
  • Develop in partnership with support executives strategies for improvement in execution of Best Practices.

Delivers Financial Results 

  • Maximize sales opportunity by leveraging our core values (People, Service and Clienteling, Loyalty) while executing the central merchandising strategies.
  • Work in partnership with all executives to coordinate and execute seasonal and transitional store-initiated strategies.  Leverage talent of the OM’s and logistics managers 
  • Ensure consistent review of weekly business reports to maximize selling opportunities, including Regular Price vs. Markdown Selling Report, Fed Ticket Compliance, Shoe Audit, Focus Report, Net-Net reporting,  HUR, OJR, and Loyalty Participation. 
  • Regularly monitor SP manager for compliance on pick@POS, and NCTs. 
  • Ensure appropriate event signage, and superior execution of markdown presentation.
  • Develop a strong partnership with VP GM and selling leadership.
  • Achieve shortage plan.
  • Reduce or eliminate OT and reduce excess hours to those generated by central scheduling or effective workload planning.
  • Achieve application goal.
  • Monitor and manage non-selling time.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with safety program.  Complete detailed analysis of all customer and employee accidents, addressing the causes and avoiding repetition of the incidents. Assure accident follow-up is completed with 48 hours of an incident.
  • Drive Gross Margin through execution of RTV blitz monthly as well as monitoring the markdown sell-through reporting. Take steps to assure proper execution of sale and clearance.
  • Achieve productivity standard

Physical Requirements: 

  • Requires periods of walking, standing, communicating, reaching, crouching, color vision and climbing ladders
  • Frequent use of computers and other technology, necessary to perform job functions, including handheld equipment, cash register and ability to process register transactions
  • Frequently lift/move up to 25lbs.
