About the role
This role will be responsible for reviewing Network Security controls, changes, and architecture while engineering and developing solutions to drive risk reduction within the Uber Production, Corporate, and Subsidiary spaces. This position is a multi-functional role of a Network Engineer, a Security Engineer, a Project Manager, and a Software Developer.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing as an network security engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) focused on the planning and coordination of information security system updates, enhancements, and expansion
  • Providing input and insight in the planning and coordination of updates, enhancements, and expansion of product security environments
  • Mentoring, coaching, and developing less experienced security engineers and partner team engineers
  • Leading the development of enterprise wide applications, services, and systems to solve for network security challenges with a variety of partners and customers

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years of large, scalable and resilient Network Security Engineering and Architecture experience
  • 5 years of engineering experience with Arista Networking and Juniper Networking
  • 3 years of experience with AWS and GCP network and security services
  • 3 years of professional software development in Python3 and/or GoLang experience
  • 3 years of Kubernetes / Docker overlay networking experience
  • 3 years of experience working with ETL Tools and data pipelines at scale
  • 3 years of experience with a SD-WAN design, deployment and management
  • 3 years of proxy (Envoy or NGINX) and/or load balancer experience (ie: F5, A10, ebpf/cilium)
  • Working understanding of optical and traditional encrypted tunnel systems and protocols (ie: IPSEC, Wireguard, OpenVPN, Layer 4 SSL)
  • Working understanding of Regex and Antlr4 parsing
  • Working understand of PCI, GDPR, NYDFS, and CCPA
  • Strong interpersonal skills for multi-functional and cross-organizational project team management
  • Experience working with Network Incident Security response methods, techniques, and legal requirements for collection and preservation of artifacts

Preferred Qualifications

  • NIST 800.207 / Zero Trust Network Architecture (ZTNA) design and architecture development experience
  • Zeek, Suricata, and other Network Security Monitoring platforms experience
  • Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) platforms experience
  • OpenConfig Experience / Understanding
  • Cisco Networking experience
  • Data warehouse (ie: Hive, Presto and Kafka) experience
  • Apache Airflow development experience
  • Apache Mesos and Kubernetes policy and engineering experience
  • Data Analysis at scale using tools like Jupyter Notebook
  • GoFX development experience
  • Experience with Batfish Open Source Network Analyzer
  • Project+ Certification or equivalent
  • Experience with AVRO encoding and heatpipe
  • Deep understanding of CICD platforms like JenkinsX and Buildkite
  • Working understanding of eBPF and XDP with module development experience and understanding of eBPF CNI's such as Cilium
  • Network Access Control (NAC) and 802.1X PEAP experience

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $185,000 per year - $205,500 per year.For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $185,000 per year - $205,500 per year.For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $185,000 per year - $205,500 per year.For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
