The Citi Ethics Office supports Citi’s mission of enabling growth and economic progress by providing resources for employees that foster a principled culture of sound ethics, responsible conduct, and accountability within the organization.  The Citi Ethics Office does this by administering Citi’s Ethics Hotline, working with business and control functions to identify control enhancements to the hotline, reporting on trends and themes and significant matters to Citi’s internal and external stakeholders (including the Chief Legal Officer, the Head of HR, the Chief Compliance Officer, other senior management, the Compensation, Performance Management and Culture Committee of the Board of Directors of Citigroup, other legal vehicle boards, and regulators around the world), and establishing and communicating Citi’s ethical values and principles through Citi’s Code of Conduct and Code of Conduct training.  The Ethics Office works with partners across the globe, including with other Citi control functions, to oversee internal investigations of employee-related issues and to identify and escalate matters, as appropriate. 

Based in New York City, the Ethics Sr Group Manager will report to the Ethics Executive Group Manager. This position will be responsible for managing a team responsible for the development, administration, and advancement of Citi’s global Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, other ethics trainings, and Ethics Office communications, as well as the review of Citi-level and other Citi policies, procedures, and standards.  This position will also be responsible for supporting the identification, refinement, and confirmation of accuracy of meaningful metrics regarding employee complaints for Ethics Office board reporting.  

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Serve as a partner and advisor to those leading Citi’s ongoing cultural transformation efforts, informed by ethics-related investigations and concepts from the Code of Conduct and other Ethics Office communication efforts. 

  • Partner with Citi’s ESPA function, as well as other businesses and functions, to review, draft, and advise, as applicable, on Citi corporate communications relating to the Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and the Ethics Office, as well as Citi regulatory filings pertaining to the same. 

  • Lead a team in the administration of Citi’s global Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, other ethics-related trainings, and Ethics Office communications. Development and effective execution of strategy to advance Citi’s Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and other Ethics Office communications and initiatives. 

  • Exercise operational responsibility for delivering Ethics Office responsibilities related to Code of Conduct and training, including updates to Citi’s global Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, other Ethics Office trainings, and Ethics Office communications. 

  • Oversee preparation of reports and metrics regarding Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and other Ethics Office trainings to be distributed to senior management, board committees, internal and external auditors, and regulators. Deliver presentations to senior management, board committees, internal and external auditors, and regulators, as well as to other external stakeholders such as investors and ratings groups. 

  • Participate in review of Citi policies, procedures, and standards on behalf of the Ethics Office. 

  • Review Citi corporate communications relating to the Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and the Ethics Office, as well as regulatory filings pertaining to the same. 

  • Partner across functions and businesses on Citi’s cultural transformation initiatives. 

  • Oversee the dentification, refinement, and confirmation of accuracy of meaningful metrics regarding employee complaints for Ethics Office board reporting, including staying abreast of industry trends and benchmarking with respect to hotlines and employee complaints.   

  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of reports to be distributed to business and/or board committees, senior management, auditors and regulators, including on the Ethics Office’s most significant matters. 

  • Present on matters, trends and themes, and/or the Ethics Office program to senior management, auditors and regulators, and legal vehicle boards. 

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate responses to ad-hoc requests for information regarding Ethics Office matters from internal and external stakeholders, including relevant regulatory authorities, while preserving confidentiality obligations. 

  • Lead and assist with other Ethics Office initiatives as needed, including presentations and other engagements with investigative partners, stakeholders, and the general employee population. Additional duties as assigned. 

  • Stay abreast of relevant Citi business and function developments in order to effectively carry out responsibilities. 

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policies, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of legal, or regulatory experience, including familiarity with codes of conduct, training, or other corporate governance.     

  • 5-8 years of managerial experience preferred. 

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills. 

  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and developing others and collaborating across peers; inspires enthusiasm and mobilizes resources for productive and innovative change. 

  • Proven ability to apply sound judgment while managing multiple assignments simultaneously, ability to manage complex documentation with strong organizational skills, and attention to detail in a demanding, fast-paced environment. 

  • Excellent analytical skills, including facility with metrics and trending data and ability to identify applicable data points and opportunities for further analysis to strengthen insights into trends and themes.   

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions, through concise and clear messaging to internal stakeholders and senior leaders. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with management and internal partners, navigate a dynamic and complex organization, and influence and lead people across cultures. 

  • Must possess the ability to work with confidential information with the appropriate care and discretion. 

  • Ability to learn and use relevant technology tools, including case management systems and basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint with an understanding of business processes. 

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Demonstrated proficiency with legal writing required 

  • JD or equivalent education is preferred
