ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION 

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is a social services organization advancing the social and economic well-being of immigrant and low-income New Yorkers through holistic services and community-led impact. DIVISION SUMMARY 

CPC Education and Career Services (ECS) provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic, and leadership potential. ECS believes it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why an asset-based approach is used to maximize clients’ current strengths. Whether in schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self-advocacy, and community building. ECS programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow.  

POSITION SUMMARY 

CPC The Project Reach Facilitator/Mentor creates a safe, affirming environment for LGBTQ+ Youth and allies. The role balances direct individual mentorship, inclusive group facilitation, and student-led advocacy. The Facilitator ensures compliance with NYC DOE privacy guidelines while empowering students to build community and develop leadership skills. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

   Group Facilitation & Ally Engagement 

• Manage Dual-Track Spaces: Lead combined meetings for LGBTQ+ youth and allies, while maintaining confidential, closed spaces exclusively for LGBTQ+ students. 

• Deliver Upstander Training: Train peer allies in active intervention strategies to safely disrupt anti-LGBTQ+ bullying, slurs, and microaggressions. 

• Advise Student Projects: Guide the group in planning school-wide awareness campaigns, and inclusive policy. 

   Individual Mentorship & Advocacy   

• Provide Identity-Affirming Support: Offer confidential, 1-on-1 mentorship focusing on identity validation, self-advocacy, and navigating the coming out process. 

• Enforce Compliance & Protections: Act as an institutional advocate to ensure school alignment with NYC DOE Transgender and Gender Expansive Student Guidelines. 

• Coordinate Transitional Planning: Assist older youth with LGBTQ+-affirming college searches, and career networking. 

   Crisis Intervention & Resource Connection 

• Maintain Radical Confidentiality: Protect student safety by strictly adhering to non-disclosure policies regarding parental notification. 

• Execute Warm Handoffs: Direct youth facing housing or mental health instability to local NYC resources (e.g., Hetrick-Martin Institute, Ali Forney Center, Callen-Lorde). 

   Education and Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Gender Studies, Human Services, or related field. 

• Minimum of 2 years working with high-school-aged youth, ideally within an urban education setting or community-based organization. 

• Deep understanding of LGBTQ+ intersectional identities, active allyship models, and NYC-specific community resources. 

   Skills and Competencies: 

• Strong crisis de-escalation, group facilitation, and boundaries management   

• Quick learner and multi-tasker who takes initiative and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 

• Excellent facilitation, time management, and interpersonal skills. 

• Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for working with immigrant and low-income communities, LGBTQ youth 

• Understanding and alignment of Positive Youth Development Framework 

• ed at workshop planning, facilitation and engagement of youth. 

• Bilingual in English and any of the following languages Arabic, Chinese, Spanish is a plus. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW 

• $23.00 - $30.00 per hour; 25-35 hours per week with occasional weekends as needed 

• CPC offers eligible staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time
