Role Overview

Harvey's Finance Engineering team is the investment-side counterpart to our Legal Engineering team: former investment professionals who bring real deal experience to Harvey's prospects and customers. Forward Deployed Finance Engineers lead discovery, demos, pilots, trainings, onboarding, and custom builds alongside our AEs and CSMs. They translate real investment work into Harvey solutions, serving as the trust layer across the entire customer lifecycle, from the first pilot to the most complex, custom-built workflow.

Finance Engineers work on Harvey Deals, a new product built off of Harvey's acquisition of Benchmark. Harvey Deals is where investment teams run their deals — screening, underwriting, diligence, and committee materials — built in the firm's own templates and formats, with every figure traceable back to the document it came from. Harvey works with 150+ asset management firms and analyzes 178M+ documents each month; the Finance Engineering team is how that capability meets the way deal teams actually work.

Finance Engineers understand how investors think and work, and use that expertise to design, build, and refine solutions that hold up under live deal pressure. In doing so, they don't just drive adoption; they shape Harvey's product roadmap, ensuring every release is grounded in what investment teams actually need. It's a team built to make Harvey the platform investment teams can trust with their most important work.

This role is the first Finance Engineer dedicated to private credit. You will build the credit playbook — demo library, workflow templates, use cases — while running live pilots, and lead the credit practice as the team grows.

You may be asked to travel around 2–3+ times per month. Travel is always for a significant business need and typically is for 1–3 days at a time.

What you'll do

Forward Deployed Finance Engineers on the private credit team are former credit investors who left the desk to help build the future of how credit gets underwritten. Working closely with Account Executives, they engage with direct lenders, opportunistic and specialty finance managers, BDC managers, and insurer credit arms throughout the pre-sales process and stay with them well past it — leading pilots on live opportunities, guiding lenders through what's possible with AI, and sitting down with credit teams to build screening, underwriting, and credit committee workflows in the firm's own templates and formats.

The work is the work they did on the desk: lender presentation and CIM review; QoE read-throughs and data pack analysis; cash flow and leverage modeling; sizing and structuring; covenant and credit agreement review; credit memo drafting; and comps. It continues post-close into compliance certificate review, covenant tracking, amendment and waiver analysis, and quarterly portfolio reporting, so value compounds after the first deal. Along the way, Finance Engineers bring credit-team feedback back into the product, helping shape the future of Harvey.

What you have
  • 3+ years on the investment or underwriting team at a direct lender, private credit fund, BDC manager, or insurer private credit arm, with demonstrated ownership of live deal work: screening, underwriting, diligence workstreams, modeling, structuring, and drafting credit committee materials. Asset-based and specialty finance backgrounds are welcome. Leveraged finance, restructuring advisory, or rating-agency experience before the principal side is welcome, but principal-side deal execution is required.

  • Strong command of the documents and data that drive a credit decision — lender presentation and CIM, QoE and data pack, model, credit agreement and intercreditor, compliance certificates — and an instinct for where the numbers and the paper disagree.

  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling, comfort with prompting and agentic AI workflows, and a builder's instinct for turning a repeated manual process into a repeatable automation. Python, SQL, or experience building internal tools is a plus.

  • Executive presence and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish credibility from analysts and associates through to partners and credit committee members.

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills — comfortable leading a live demo, facilitating a workshop, or holding your own in a technical conversation about a covenant package or an underwriting assumption.

  • Deep curiosity about AI's potential to transform investment work, paired with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset and bias toward action.

  • Track record partnering with senior stakeholders to drive results, with curiosity for testing approaches and optimizing for customer outcomes.

  • Customer-facing or commercial experience (LP or investor relations, capital formation, banking coverage, business development) and/or hands-on experience using AI tools in an investment setting are pluses.
