ABOUT

Firefly Aerospace is a space and defense technology company on a mission to reliably and repeatedly launch, land, and operate space systems from Earth to the Moon and beyond. As the partner of choice for critical space missions, Firefly is the first commercial company to launch a satellite to orbit with 24-hour notice and the first company to achieve a successful Moon landing. Headquartered in north Austin, Texas, Firefly is looking for passionate, hardworking innovators to join our team and help fuel our successful trajectory into space.

SUMMARY

Firefly is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own and evolve the cloud infrastructure and DevOps and that powers our Vision Navigation System (VNS) and Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) teams—and to support Firefly's Aerospace Software Engineering (ASE) as a whole.

In this role, you will build the CI/CD systems, build tooling, release management, cloud infrastructure, and data pipelines that connect development, simulation, testing, and mission operations. You will establish unified packaging, release, and test workflows spanning firmware, spacecraft software, ground systems, and cloud services, and improve engineering efficiency across ASE by improving build times, test reliability, and deployment reproducibility.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, build systems, hardware-in-the-loop (HWiL) test beds, an interest in aerospace software and perception systems, and an appetite for solving complex problems where software, data, and mission requirements meet.

This position may be based onsite at Firefly Aerospace's facilities in Austin, Texas, or Littleton, Colorado. Fully remote candidates are also considered, provided they can travel to Austin for approximately one week every other month—up to six weeks annually—to support test activities, hardware integration, mission milestones, and mission operations. Additional travel may occasionally be required based on program needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, development, and operation of CI/CD, build tooling, simulation environments, and cloud infrastructure for the VNS and GNC software stacks
  • Build unified packaging and release management for all of ASE, spanning firmware, spacecraft software, ground systems, and cloud services
  • Build and maintain test and release workflows for multiple teams, ensuring high test coverage and build reproducibility across environments
  • Own and improve build tooling; optimize CI and build times to improve engineer productivity across the organization
  • Manage shared testing pipelines to improve PR merge speed and overall development velocity
  • Support data processing pipelines and visualization tooling, both on the ground and in the cloud
  • Design and manage storage, versioning, and distribution strategies for large versioned data assets (imagery, simulation data, maps, ML datasets)
  • Support infrastructure for ML training workflows, including compute provisioning, dataset management, and experiment reproducibility
  • Design, review, and maintain cloud infrastructure, managing reliability, security, and cost
  • Establish developer workflows, automation, and documentation that improve reliability and engineering velocity across ASE
  • Partner with perception, GNC, avionics, flight software, systems engineering, and mission operations teams to ensure cohesive system behavior
  • Diagnose complex build, deployment, and infrastructure issues; contribute to architectural decisions, conduct technical reviews, and mentor other engineers

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may be considered
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience in DevOps, build/release engineering, and/or cloud infrastructure roles
  • Experience managing builds and deployment environments with high test coverage and build reproducibility
  • Strong experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release management for multi-team codebases
  • Experience designing, deploying, and reviewing cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure), including infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform)
  • Experience developing and debugging in Linux environments; strong scripting and automation skills in Python or similar languages
  • Experience dealing with large versioned data assets and the pipelines that process them
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, automated testing, and maintainable software design
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex system-level issues and communicate effectively across software, algorithm, hardware, and systems engineering teams

Desired

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience supporting DevOps for embedded or firmware targets, including cross-compilation and hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure
  • Experience supporting ML training infrastructure, dataset versioning, or experiment tracking
  • Familiarity with C++ build systems (e.g., CMake, Bazel) and the needs of large C++ codebases
  • Experience developing software for spacecraft, aerospace, robotics, autonomous vehicles, defense systems, or other mission-critical applications
  • Experience with data processing pipelines and visualization tooling on the ground and in the cloud
  • Familiarity with computer vision, visual navigation, state estimation, or perception pipelines
  • Experience with flight software interfaces, telemetry and commanding, software- or hardware-in-the-loop testing, or mission operations
