The Corporate Functions Governance & Control team within ESS serves as the business unit Governance & Control Management function for several corporate groups including ESS; Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C); Colleague Experience Group (CEG); General Counsel’s Organization (GCO); Enterprise Strategy (ES); and American Express National Bank Headquarters (AENB HQ).
The objective of the Corporate Functions Governance & Control Governance team is to enable risk governance and control management for Corporate Functions, through a structure that governs, identifies, assesses, manages and reports on enterprise, operational and compliance risks.
The Corporate Functions Governance & Control team is looking for a Manager, Regulatory Advisory & Practices, that will provide strategic compliance and regulatory advice and counsel to ensure that the business manages and mitigates regulatory risk in all jurisdictions in which it operates.
ResponsibilitiesProvide compliance and privacy advisory support by identifying applicable Laws, Rules and Regulations (LRRs) and relevant requirements associated with business processes, programs, and controls.
Partner across Governance & Control and with business partners to design and enhance controls by providing compliance guidance and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
Assess the applicability of Laws, Rules, and Regulations (LRRs), support LRR mapping within the RCSA program, and advise on compliance impacts to business processes, controls, issues, and remediation activities.
Interpret Compliance Risk Assessment (CRA) results and advise business partners on prioritizing actions to address identified compliance risks and gaps.
Advise on compliance considerations throughout the issue, event, and remediation lifecycle, including responses to 2LOD Compliance effective challenge.
Facilitate the review of marketing and other customer-facing materials, as appropriate, to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and enterprise requirements.
Partner with key enterprise stakeholders to drive consistent and effective compliance risk management.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in compliance, legal, privacy, or regulatory advisory within the financial services industry.
- Experience in governance, risk management, or operational risk management within the financial services industry.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying regulatory requirements and advising business stakeholders on compliance risks, controls, and regulatory obligations.
- Strong relationship management, influencing, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or evolving environments, exercising sound judgment, managing competing priorities, and delivering results with minimal oversight.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (e.g., J.D.) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), Compliance Risk Assessments (CRA), issues management, control frameworks, or regulatory change management.
- Professional certification such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), or similar certification preferred.
