The summary above was generated by AI

Pubity has built one of the largest social audiences in the world by sourcing and curating news, culture, entertainment, and the conversations shaping the internet. Now we are building an original editorial operation around that audience, with a focus on original reporting and stories that matter.

The Managing Editor will define what news at Pubity looks like, from the stories we cover and originate to how we tell them across social and owned platforms. You'll launch Pubity's first original news social posts, establish an original reporting practice, and build the editorial team, standards, and systems needed to support both.

We want someone who understands what makes people stop, care, and share, but who also brings the editorial judgment and journalistic standards to build something credible and lasting. It's a special opportunity to create a new editorial function with a huge audience from day one.

About the role

Editorial strategy & news agenda

  • Own the daily news agenda, deciding which stories matter to our audience, where Pubity has something distinctive to add, and what we should leave alone.

  • Define Pubity's editorial proposition across news, culture, entertainment, internet trends, and the stories shaping our audience's lives.

  • Develop a clear editorial voice and approach that makes complicated or fast-moving stories accessible, interesting, and native to the way younger audiences consume news.

  • Spot emerging stories and conversations early, combining strong editorial instinct with an understanding of what travels across social platforms.

Original reporting & editorial development

  • Build an original reporting practice that moves Pubity beyond aggregation, from finding original angles and interviewing sources to breaking stories and securing exclusives.

  • Establish the sourcing, verification, attribution, fact-checking, corrections, and editorial standards required for a credible global news operation.

  • Build a network of reporters, contributors, experts, and sources that gives Pubity access to stories and perspectives others don't have.

  • Develop repeatable editorial formats and franchises across explainers, interviews, recurring features, and other forms of storytelling.

Newsletters, web & owned audience

  • Develop the strategy for converting Pubity's existing social reach into a meaningful owned audience and direct relationship with readers.

  • Launch Pubity's first flagship newsletter and/or web proposition, owning its editorial purpose, format, voice, cadence, and day-to-day execution.

  • Build a newsletter people actively choose to read, rather than simply another distribution channel for existing social content.

  • Use what we learn from the newsletter to identify other editorial products and opportunities that could have a life beyond social.

Team leadership

  • Build, manage, and develop the editorial team as the function grows, including line management of key editorial hires.

  • Set a high editorial bar while creating an environment where reporters and editors can move quickly, take smart risks, and develop.

  • Establish clear workflows for commissioning, editing, publishing, and reacting to breaking news across time zones.

  • Make the case for team structure and hiring as the function grows, bringing in the right editorial talent and expertise where needed.

Audience, social & cross-functional delivery

  • Work closely with Pubity's social teams to make original journalism work natively on Instagram and other platforms without sacrificing context, accuracy, or quality.

  • Use audience and performance data to understand what resonates, refine coverage, and make decisions about where to invest more editorial resource.

  • Partner across Video, Creative, Data & Measurement, Product, and Commercial so the editorial function benefits from the scale and expertise already inside Pubity Group.

  • Help define the role original journalism can play across the wider Pubity ecosystem as the function proves itself and grows.

About you

  • Experience in journalism or digital media, with a track record as a senior editor, managing editor, deputy editor, or equivalent. We are seeking someone with prior management experience.

  • Exceptional news judgment and a track record of identifying stories, angles, and conversations that resonate with large audiences.

  • Direct experience commissioning and editing original reporting, including working with reporters, contributors, and sources.

  • Experience building or materially developing an editorial product, vertical, desk, or team.

  • Direct experience managing and developing editorial talent, including hiring, feedback, and accountability.

  • Strong knowledge of journalistic standards, including sourcing, verification, attribution, corrections, and media ethics.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and headline skills, with the ability to make complex stories clear, concise, and compelling.

  • A strong understanding of how news and culture travel across Instagram, TikTok, and the wider social internet.

  • Confidence reading audience and performance data without allowing it to replace editorial judgment.

  • The ability to operate at both levels: setting the long-term editorial strategy and getting hands-on with a story, headline, or breaking-news decision when needed.

  • Combines strong opinions and editorial instincts with the willingness to change course when the audience, reporting, or data says otherwise.

  • Splits time between direct people leadership, hands-on editing, and building a new function inside a fast-moving social-first media business.

  • Comfortable moving between a breaking story in the morning, editing a newsletter in the afternoon, and thinking about the shape of the editorial team six months from now.

Nice to have

  • Experience at a social-first or digital-native news, media, or culture brand.

  • Experience launching or growing a successful newsletter or other owned editorial product.

  • A track record of building a new editorial desk, vertical, publication, or newsroom function from the ground up.

  • Existing relationships with journalists, contributors, creators, and sources in the UK and/or US.

  • Experience working across both US and UK news cycles or for a global publication.

  • Experience developing editorial franchises that have successfully moved between written, social, video, and other formats.

What good looks like

  • Pubity has a clear and distinctive editorial identity that audiences recognise across social and owned platforms.

  • Pubity is regularly originating stories rather than only responding to stories that already exist.

  • Original reporting is generating meaningful audience engagement and beginning to be cited, shared, and picked up beyond Pubity's own channels.

  • A flagship Pubity newsletter is live, growing, and developing a direct relationship with an audience beyond social platforms.

  • Clear editorial standards and workflows are in place without slowing down the speed that makes Pubity successful.

  • A strong editorial team has been built and is visibly growing under you.

  • Pubity is becoming a place where millions of people go not just to see what the internet is talking about, but to understand what's happening and discover stories worth talking about.

We are determined to create a diverse group at all levels of our company and we welcome all members of the community to apply for openings with us. As a leading Gen-Z social publisher, we have a powerful global platform to better represent our audience and enable those that do not have equal opportunities to have their voices heard.
