Why UJA, Why Now?
Big problems need big solutions. And for more than a century, UJA-Federation of New York has been at the center of Jewish New York, bringing people and partners together to meet challenges no single organization can solve alone.

Today, these challenges are more urgent than ever: rising antisemitism, the enduring impact of October 7 on Israeli society, and the rising cost of living right here at home. At the same time, we’re seeing something new and powerful: Jewish community members yearning to connect, to show up proudly Jewish, and to be part of something larger than themselves.

At this moment, UJA’s role has never been more important. And how we tell our story matters: building awareness of our work, deepening engagement, and helping people feel connected to a community they want to be part of.

If this sounds like work you’d love to do, we hope you’ll apply.

The Opportunity
UJA’s impact is everywhere: in the human services that help New Yorkers get through tough times, the programs that make Jewish life more vibrant, and the partnerships that mobilize our community when it matters most.

Your job is to help people understand that work, connect with it, and want to join us. As Marketing & Content Lead, Community Impact, you’ll be the marketing point person for UJA’s Planning and grantmaking initiatives. You’ll partner with colleagues across the organization to turn complex ideas into clear, compelling stories and guide projects from the first conversation through the final deliverable.

You’re a strategic thinker and an exceptional writer. You’re also the person who knows where every project stands, what happens next, and who needs to weigh in. You live in the forest and the trees, the big picture and the fine print. (Oh, and you love metaphors.)

What You’ll Do
Turn UJA’s work into stories that connect

  • Translate complex program information into stories that resonate with donors, partners, and the broader community.
  • Find the human story in the work and bring it to life in UJA’s voice.
  • Write clear, compelling content for emails, web pages, presentations, collateral, donor briefings, and events.
  • Partner with the Director of Brand & Marketing to ensure messaging reflects our mission, brand, and priorities.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to support your writing and creative process.

Bring projects from idea to execution

  • Serve as the primary marketing partner for UJA’s grantmakers, helping colleagues turn their goals into effective communications.
  • Manage marketing initiatives from concept through delivery, keeping the big picture in focus and the details on track.
  • Create project plans and timelines, manage workflow in Workfront, and keep colleagues informed along the way.
  • Coordinate with design, web, email, and other internal teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality work.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across synagogue relations, government relations, human services, Jewish life, community mobilization, and other areas of UJA’s work.
  • Exercise visual thinking, drawing on UJA’s visual/design assets to help bring stories to life.

Be a partner people count on

  • Build strong relationships with colleagues across departments and serve as a trusted source of marketing guidance.
  • Ask good questions, anticipate needs, and help partners find the clearest way to communicate their work.
  • Bring people together around a shared goal, while keeping projects moving and decisions clear.

Who You Are

You’re an undeniably superb writer who also happens to be obsessed with project management/details. You love a well-told story and a well-organized timeline. You can move from a big-picture conversation to the smallest detail without losing sight of either. You’re curious, resourceful, and comfortable working with people across an organization. You come to the table knowing what questions to ask. Your thoughtfulness and enthusiasm inspire trust. And you’re just a genuinely likable person.

You bring:

  • 5-10 years of experience in marketing, communications, writing, and account /project management.
  • Real marketing chops: Strong strategic instincts, creative problem-solving skills, and close attention to detail.
  • Account lead experience: the ability to build relationships, collaborate across teams, and communicate comfortably with colleagues at every level.
  • Superb writing skills and the ability to translate marketing goals into compelling, engaging copy.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other creative tools is a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Just as important, you are:

  • A thoughtful partner. You listen, ask questions, and offer ideas that make the work stronger.
  • A storyteller. You know how to take complicated information and distill it to make people care.
  • A project owner. You follow through, keep people informed, and take pride in getting the details right.
  • A self-starter. You’re comfortable taking initiative, navigating competing needs, and managing up, down, and across.
  • Curious about Jewish community. You bring experience with or a strong interest in Jewish communal life, programs, and initiatives.
