MEP Estimating Manager

• Leads the MEP estimating process and deliverable for multiple concurrent projects within a Business Unit (BU) or a single large / complex project through the entire design phase of a project
• Review Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing drawings to develop Scope Narratives.
• Develops estimating deliverables for multiple project types (centers of excellence) and delivery methods
• Prepares preliminary conceptual cost estimates and budgets on limited information while providing adequate written clarifications of the costing assumptions
• Collaborates with other internal disciplines consistently including operations, accounting, VDC, purchasing, and scheduling
• Coordinates often with the Estimating Director, preconstruction lead, operations team, and BD staff on all deliverables with projects ranging in size and complexity
• Coordinates and executes tasks of estimating personnel assigned to a specific estimate
• Communicates and coordinates the entire Gilbane estimating process with Client and design team
• Collaborates with other vertical departments for complete alignment including Next 150, Gilbane Insurance Group, TPM, FMS and GTG
• Participates in the development of the fee pro and proposals, specifically as it relates to preconstruction services and associated costs
• Prepares costs for each estimating deliverable for the entire package to align with contract requirements and fee enhancement opportunities including staffing, site services, general conditions, subcontractor default insurance, insurance programs, etc.
• Understands all construction disciplines (civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical) to prepare reliable, cost certain estimating deliverables
• Leads staff to ensure accuracy in estimating process, procedures, and review requirements
• Reviews and understands all project plans, requirements, and specifications
• Coordinates and supervises a team of estimators to develop large, multi-disciplinary estimates
• Leads the Value Management process to reduce price and increase value
• Serves as a Gilbane brand ambassador with Owners, design teams, and industry partners (for example ACE mentor programs)
• Trains direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks 
• Manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards
• Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members
• Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports
• May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required.
• 9-15+ years of progressive commercial MEP estimating and preconstruction experience.
• Experience leading MEP estimating efforts on large-scale, complex commercial projects, preferably up to $500M in construction value.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent MEP estimates or oversee large, complex estimates from conceptual design through final pricing.
• Advanced proficiency with estimating and takeoff software including On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Destini Estimator, and related MEP/sitework estimating tools.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems construction costs, market conditions, and industry trends.
• Ability to lead the MEP estimating process throughout all phases of design, ensuring accurate cost planning, budgeting, value engineering, and risk identification.
• Proven ability to develop conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates with limited design information.
• Experience estimating a diverse range of project types including commercial high-rise, healthcare, interiors, institutional, residential, and mixed-use developments.
• Thorough understanding of multiple project delivery methods including Design-Build, Design-Assist, CM at Risk, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), and Lump Sum.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners to validate scope, reconcile assumptions, and develop comprehensive pricing strategies.
• Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to confidently present estimating deliverables, cost analyses, value engineering recommendations, and procurement strategies to internal stakeholders and clients.
• Ability to participate in client interviews, pursuits, and proposal development efforts as a key member of the preconstruction team.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, owners, and design partners to support competitive and accurate estimating efforts.
• Monitors and analyzes market conditions, labor availability, material escalation, equipment costs, procurement challenges, and lead-time impacts to proactively inform project budgets and preconstruction strategies.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to mentor and develop estimating staff while promoting consistency, quality, and best practices across estimating deliverables.

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

For New York City, NY, this ranges from $170,000.00-$240,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.

For Albany, NY, this ranges from $130,000.00-$190,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
