Job Description

The Migration Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing data migration efforts into Salesforce Education Cloud and/or Salesforce Advancement. This role oversees the end-to-end migration of source system data—typically delivered in CSV or structured extract formats—into the target Salesforce environment, ensuring data is clean, mapped, transformed, validated, and successfully loaded. The Migration Lead partners closely with functional and technical teams to interpret business requirements, define data models, establish migration rules, and ensure data quality and reconciliation throughout all iterations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build, update, and maintain Source-to-Target Mapping (STM) documentation and migration rules.
  • Prepare datasets and apply transformation logic prior to loading into Salesforce.
  • Execute test and production data loads using Salesforce Data Loader, including inserts, updates, and upserts.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Data Loader errors, ensuring all records load successfully with proper relationships.
  • Sequence load operations to correctly load parent/child relationships, junction objects, affiliations, and Advancement records.
  • Partner with functional and technical leads to clarify data requirements, business rules, and migration constraints.
  • Manage iterative migration cycles, including initial loads, delta loads, and final cutover activities.
  • Perform post-load data validation and reconciliation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain documentation for migration activities, load instructions, and validation steps.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and issues to project managers and client stakeholders.
  • Support testing activities by preparing test data and addressing defects related to data quality or structure.
  • Participate in migration-related meetings, including data review sessions, mapping walkthroughs, and go-live planning.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on Salesforce experience, with direct work in Education Cloud and/or Advancement.
  • Strong proficiency with Salesforce Data Loader, including large-volume loads, upsert strategies, relationship mapping, and error resolution.
  • Deep understanding of Education Data Architecture (EDA), including account models, contact structures, affiliations, course connections, and Advancement objects.
  • Experience executing full data migration lifecycles, including mapping, cleansing, transformation, validation, and multi-iteration test loads.
  • Ability to interpret and translate business requirements into data rules, transformation logic, and load sequences.
  • Strong skills in analyzing source data provided via CSV or other extracts to identify required adjustments and understand structural alignment to Salesforce.
  • Comfort working with lookup relationships and load sequencing, including parent-child dependencies, external ID strategies, and record relationships.
  • Experience performing reconciliation and validation after each migration cycle to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with functional leads, technical architects, and client stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in managing large datasets, resolving load errors, and ensuring readiness for cutover.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce environments, including sandboxes, scratch orgs, change sets, and deployment patterns related to migrations.
  • 5+ years of SQL Skills

Desired Skills
  • Experience with Salesforce Education Cloud or Advancement implementations beyond data migration (functional or technical exposure).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Admin tasks, including managing objects, fields, validation rules, and permissions during migration cycles.
  • Experience with tools used to transform or stage data prior to loading.
  • Understanding of advancement, student, or alumni lifecycle processes, including gifts, campaigns, engagement scoring, and constituent management.
  • Experience building or reviewing Source-to-Target Mapping (STM) documents and metadata dictionaries.
  • Knowledge of data quality frameworks and basic data profiling techniques.
  • Exposure to SQL for querying, validating, and profiling source data.
  • Experience managing data cutover plans, blackout windows, delta loads, and final production load execution.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Bulk API, Bulk API 2.0, and considerations for large-volume data loads.
  • Experience collaborating with third-party SIS/CRM/advancement platforms that frequently integrate with Salesforce.
  • Ability to work in agile delivery models, including sprint planning, iterative cycles, and coordinated testing.
  • Strong documentation skills for migration guides, data validation instructions, and post-load reconciliation steps.
