The OSHS Government Relations Coordinator supports the day-to-day management of inquiry processes associated with federal contracts administered by Optum Serve Health Services (OSHS), including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Care Network (CCN), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Medical Disability Examinations (MDE), Department of Defense Nurse Advice Line, World Trade Center Health Program, Reserve Health Readiness Program (RHRP), and other government-supported programs.
Working under the direction of the Government Relations Department Manager and the OSHS Government Relations Director, the Government Relations Coordinator provides operational and administrative support to ensure the timely coordination, tracking, and resolution of congressional, executive, and priority inquiries. This role supports daily team operations, assists with casework management, maintains records and reporting, coordinates stakeholder communications, and contributes to special projects and process improvement initiatives. The Government Relations Coordinator plays a key role in helping ensure inquiries are managed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual and organizational requirements. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, discretion in handling sensitive information, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
This position is full time Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
This will be on the job training and the training will be from Monday - Friday.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support the intake, tracking, prioritization, and coordination of congressional, executive, and priority inquiries across Optum Serve Health Services federal programs.
  • Monitor shared mailboxes, correspondence systems, and intake channels to ensure timely acknowledgment and routing of inquiries.
  • Ensure appropriate legal documentation is on file.
  • Utilize internal systems and resources, including ServiceNow, Med Net, VA CCN Portal, Rumba, and other applicable platforms, to research inquiries and facilitate case resolution.
  • Track inquiry status, response deadlines, and service-level requirements to support timely case resolution.
  • Support with the established processes to obtain input from internal subject matter experts for responses.
  • Prepare regular reports, metrics, and status updates for Government Relations leadership and contract stakeholders.
  • Identify recurring inquiry themes, trends, and process improvement opportunities and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental procedures, job aids, and process documentation.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18+ years of age OR older
  • 3+ years of administrative, customer service, healthcare operations, government relations, or related experience
  • 2+ years of experience supporting administrative operations, correspondence management, healthcare operations, claims & appeals processing
  • Currently working as a contractor placed at UHG or one of its subsidiaries or affiliate
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with military and veteran casework from Members of Congress
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Teams
  • Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets, reports, tracking logs, and correspondence files
  • Understanding of the unique needs of the military and Veteran community
  • Organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally across all levels of an organization
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential, and protected information with discretion
  • Understanding of HIPAA and privacy requirements related to healthcare information
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and effectively manage time-sensitive or escalated inquiries
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the unique needs and experiences of military Service members, Veterans, and their families

  • Experience identifying operational trends and recommending process improvements
  • Military service, military/Veteran spouse, or demonstrated involvement with Veteran-focused programs and initiatives

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
