Job Description:
Akamai Technologies, Inc. is hiring for the following role in Cambridge, MA (multiple openings): Principal Software Engineer Design entire software subsystems or groups of components. Organize large bodies of code to simplify maintenance and streamline complication. Implement code so that incremental performance improvements will not require extensive rework. Take a lead role in code reviews to ensure systems are evaluated holistically. Develop conventions and processes to improve the efficiency of Akamai development. Develop debugging tools or frameworks and advise QA on tools to build to increase productivity. Ensure specifications, designs, and implementations take into consideration technical and business aspects of a request while maintaining functionality. Guide the process of defining a business problem, refining the request, and articulating a technical solution. Determine if large software projects have achieved production quality using objective data measurements. Identify when large-scale refactoring is necessary for evolution, advocate for the effort, and articulate benefits. Lead, advise, and cooperate with QA on creating test infrastructure and automation. Find OS-dependent performance problems and propose global optimizations. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the United States. [AG0028]

Required Qualification:
Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering Science, Information Systems, IT, or Telecommunications, plus six (6) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role. 
Alternatively, employer will accept Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering Science, Information Systems, IT, or Telecommunications, plus eight (8) years of experience  in the job offered or closely related engineering role.
Must have one (1) year of experience with the following: highly available web content management solutions including SDL, Tridion, WorldServer, KnowledgeCenter, Marketo, Cast Iron, and Informatica; front and back-end web development in HTML, CSS, Javascript, JSP, ASPX, JSON, REST, .NET, Java, and XML; Windows Server 2012 and Linux administration; enterprise content management best practices; designing and implementing workflow automation, segmentation rules, application integration, and database design; IIS, Apache, HTTP webservers, and Tomcat; and Agile software development methodology including Jira, Git, Jenkins, and testing automation.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $186160-$304700 /year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
