Job Description:

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. is seeking a Research Associate to join our Emerging Technologies and Services team in New York City. Working directly with a Senior Analyst, you will help cover a high-growth universe spanning electronic components, consumer hardware, and digital media (including video games and mobile AdTech). This is a fast-paced role for a self-starter who excels at complex financial modeling and clear, evidence-based investment writing.

Responsibilities

  • Research & Analysis: Support the Senior Analyst in developing and marketing equity research products, including company-specific reports and thematic industry analysis.
  • Financial Modeling: Build and maintain integrated income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow models for covered companies.
  • Data Management: Organize and maintain proprietary industry data sets and valuation "comps" to support investment theses.
  • Project Ownership: Independently initiate and complete research projects with minimal supervision, often under tight deadlines.
  • Communication: Express strong, well-reasoned investment opinions through clear writing and internal collaboration.

Requirements

  • Finance Expertise: Strong background in accounting and finance with the ability to model complex business scenarios. Advanced skills in integrated 3-statement modeling and valuation. The candidate must be able to build a working 3-statement model in Excel from scratch.
  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to write clearly and concisely without hyperbole. Ability to produce high-quality research reports under time constraints.
  • Mindset: Intellectual honesty, a high degree of curiosity, and the "nimbleness" to update views when presented with new facts.
  • Work Ethic: A self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Education/Experience: Experience in equity research, video games, consumer electronics, or semiconductors is preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to admit knowledge gaps and orient quickly when dealing with unknowns.
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong attention to detail and high degree of intellectual curiosity.

Compensation:

For job postings in New York City, Oppenheimer is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. This salary range is specific to the City of New York and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making salary decisions including but not limited to your skills, qualifications, experience, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range is $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 at the time of this posting. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as discretionary bonus.
