POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Observability Data Platform Engineering is responsible for leading the strategy, engineering, operations, and continuous evolution of the enterprise Observability Data Platform that supports Operations, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Application, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams across the organization. As the engineering leader for the platform, the Senior Manager, Observability Data Platform Engineering oversees teams responsible for platform architecture, telemetry ingestion, data processing, platform reliability, performance optimization, automation, governance, user enablement, and technology lifecycle management. The Senior Manager, Observability Data Platform Engineering is accountable for delivering a secure, scalable, highly available, and cost-efficient observability ecosystem that supports thousands of users and hundreds of data-producing systems enterprise-wide.

The Senior Manager, Observability Data Platform Engineering partners closely with Product Management, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Application Engineering, Cloud Platform, and Enterprise Architecture leaders to define and execute the platform strategy and roadmap. This includes advancing observability capabilities that improve operational visibility, service reliability, engineering productivity, and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, product thinking, and operational excellence. The Senior Manager, Observability Data Platform Engineering brings proven experience leading enterprise-scale observability, data platform, cloud platform, or infrastructure engineering organizations, with a demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams, deliver complex platform modernization initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and translate business objectives into measurable engineering outcomes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the engineering, operations, and continuous evolution of the enterprise Observability Data Platform.

  • Own platform reliability, scalability, availability, performance, and operational health.

  • Oversee telemetry ingestion, observability data services, and platform capabilities supporting enterprise monitoring and analytics.

  • Define and execute the platform strategy and roadmap in partnership with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering stakeholders.

  • Drive automation, operational efficiency, performance optimization, capacity planning, and continuous service improvement.

  • Establish engineering standards, governance processes, and security controls to ensure platform integrity, compliance, and lifecycle management.

  • Champion platform adoption, stakeholder engagement, and user enablement across the enterprise.

  • Lead, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and operational excellence.

  • Manage strategic vendor relationships and technology partnerships to support platform capabilities and business objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise-scale data, platform, infrastructure, observability, or cloud engineering environments, including large-scale data ingestion and distributed platforms.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience building high-performing teams and delivering complex, cross-functional technical initiatives.

  • 5+ years of experience operating large-scale cloud and/or hybrid platforms with responsibility for reliability, monitoring, incident management, and operational excellence.

  • 3+ years of experience leading complex, enterprise-wide engineering initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups, business functions, and technology teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency with enterprise observability platforms, including Splunk, Cribl, and OpenTelemetry (OTel).

  • Background in cloud-native data platforms and architectures, including Databricks, Azure, and distributed telemetry ecosystems.

  • Familiarity with Security Operations, SIEM platforms, and enterprise-scale observability, logging, and telemetry environments.

  • Understanding of streaming and messaging technologies, including Kafka and cloud-native services.

  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, CI/CD practices, and modern platform engineering principles.

  • Experience with enterprise observability platforms, including Splunk and similar technologies.

  • Experience with cloud-native data platforms, telemetry pipelines, and modern observability architectures, including Databricks, Cribl, and OpenTelemetry (OTel).

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience).

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$118,450.00 - $236,900.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
