IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in New York, NY (Manhattan office) to lead large and highly complex mechanical-system projects for the vertical building industry. This role provides project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients while leading project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight.
You will work within project budgets, lead training and mentoring efforts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The role advances high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
Technical Path
· Lead analysis and design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including detailed designs, specifications, and calculations.
· Conduct site assessments and prepare detailed analysis and technical reports.
· Work with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build relationships.
· Perform in-process design reviews and apply quality-control processes to mechanical system designs, calculations, specifications, and correspondence.
· Provide technical training, mentoring, and assistance resolving field issues with minimal support from senior staff.
· Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and mechanical-engineering best practices, and lead research, development, and innovation efforts.
· Prioritize safety and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems.
· Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
· Lead project interviews and presentations.
OR
Project Management Path
· Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects of varying size and complexity as the point of contact for teams and clients.
· Collaborate with business development staff, Project Executives, Client Executives, and Market Directors / Leaders during early project opportunities.
· Assist with design scopes, fee calculations, proposal generation, and contract reviews.
· Create project schedules with milestone and deadline targets.
· Create monthly billings, submit financial information to Accounting, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentages.
· Ensure designs meet owner, company, and code requirements, deliverables meet milestones, quality-control processes are completed, and construction technical support is timely.
· Coordinate design staff and project schedules through all design and construction phases, and lead progress meetings and meeting documentation.
· Lead project interviews and presentations.
· Resolve client and construction concerns, manage change orders, and obtain approvals.
· Train, mentor, and motivate staff.
· Build, maintain, and develop client relationships.

Required Skills and Abilities· Mastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
· Mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
· Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
Project Management Path
Required Skills and Abilities· Demonstrated leadership traits in the project management career path; ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
· Mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Required for Both Paths
Education and Experience· Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
· Professional Engineer (PE) License required
· 14 years of experience minimum required, 16 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Skills and Abilities
· Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
· Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
· Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
· Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
· Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
· Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays

· Design HVAC systems, central plants, building automation and controls, and energy recovery solutions.
· Use lifecycle analysis, rapid energy modeling, and sustainable design practices to support occupant comfort, indoor air quality, and reduced energy consumption.
· Deliver innovative, high-performance mechanical designs for complex facilities, including hospitals.
· Contribute to award-winning energy-efficient HVAC design work recognized through ASHRAE Technology Awards.
· Recent work includes Weill Cornell Medicine Primary Care and Radiology, Healthcare, and Brooklyn Hospital Center Emergency Department Expansion, Healthcare.

State of New York Salary Range: $130,000-$180,000 per year
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
