Senior Personal Finance Editor - Loans & Credit Cards

Job Description:

WSJ Buy Side is seeking an experienced senior editor with deep expertise in loans and credit cards, who can create engaging, accurate, and actionable coverage for consumers. In this role, you will help break down complex financial topics and empower readers to make informed decisions on loans and credit cards.

The ideal candidate has proven experience editing and writing about a variety of loan and credit card topics, working with large datasets, and developing data-driven methodologies that simplify consumer decision-making.

You should have experience reporting or editing on credit cards as well as key loan categories, including auto, business, personal, and student loans.

Dow Jones’s reviews and recommendations site operates independently of The Wall Street Journal newsroom and is dedicated to helping consumers make smart decisions about how to spend their time and money.

As part of the Buy Side from WSJ editorial team, you will ensure content meets high standards of journalistic excellence and responsibly guides readers.

• Serve as Buy Side’s subject matter expert on loans and credit cards, staying ahead of industry trends and changes.
• Edit and write high-quality articles on loans and credit card topics tailored to WSJ subscribers.
• Manage credit cards compliance and make compliance updates as needed. 
• Uphold rigorous editorial standards to deliver independent, unbiased reporting.
• Ensure appropriate sourcing and oversee thorough fact-checking processes across the team.
• Coach and mentor writers and editors to deepen their knowledge of loan products and credit cards.
• Develop data-driven methodologies for evaluating loan products.
• Coordinate data collection, fact-checking, and scoring for large datasets.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to develop best-in-class content.
• Partner with editorial and commerce teams to plan future editorial lineups that resonate with the WSJ audience.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the WSJ.com audience to ensure alignment with brand standards.
• Identify and recommend linking opportunities to relevant WSJ news articles.

• 8+ years of personal finance reporting and editing experience.
• In-depth understanding of the loans and credit card industries, including market trends, compliance and consumer concerns.
• Experience creating data-driven methodologies to evaluate loans and credit card products.
• A proven track record of managing and developing editorial teams.
• Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and content optimization techniques.
• Ability to deliver high-quality content consistently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Strong ability to quickly identify structural or stylistic issues in copy and provide clear, constructive feedback and line edits.
• Familiarity with affiliate revenue models and operations is preferred.
• Prior experience on staff in a newsroom or major digital publication environment.
