Position: Senior Research Project Manager

Department: Pediatrics Research

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Remote

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Center for Health Equity, Education, and Research (CHEER) at Boston Medical Center is a world-class center for maternal child health advocacy, training and research. Its mission is to bring about health equity by collaborating with community-based partners and providing technical assistance, training, evaluation, and inspiration. CHEER focuses on underserved populations, with a particular emphasis on maternal child health and nutrition.

 

Under the supervision of CHEER’s Director and Associate Director, the Senior Research Project Manager (SRPM) will support the CHAMPS National program. CHAMPS is a hospital-based initiative that promotes evidence-based maternity practices, with the ultimate goal of increasing breastfeeding rates and decreasing racial disparities in breastfeeding. The new CHAMPS National program is a CDC funded program, which expands hospital enrollment to 100 sites around the US and its territories. The SRPM will develop protocols, assessment instruments, monitor program implementation, provide training, and assist with manuscripts, presentations and reporting to the CDC. The SRPM will provide support to CHAMPS National hospitals, enabling access to trainings, resources, and QI training. The SRPM will function as liaisons between CHAMPS National team members, QI specialists, and trainers, and hospital contacts.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management

  • Coordinates and facilitates the research project management life cycle, including initiation, development, and implementation of various complex experimentation projects.

  • Collaborates with other BU departments and universities on joint projects.

  • Offers training and assistance to other facilities working with the CHEER program, provides expert guidance and direct assistance.

  • Oversees outreach to facilities in different locations.

  • Responsible for scoping, coordinating early research activities, training program staff, and managing implementation of QI training, and research.  

  • Coordinates research and hospital teams, and manages project timelines, to ensure milestones are completed within the specified and in line with annual objectives.

  • Meets regularly with stakeholders, including research staff, contractors, project and study teams, to collect and communicate business and research requirements, and set expectations for research-related work.

  • Responsible for the completion of both research and project management deliverables, including project plans and research schedules, progress reports and investigational applications.

 

Research Management

  • Works with Principal Investigators to select the most appropriate methodology and techniques for facilitating the research.

  • Responsible for producing qualitative and quantitative research plans, designing questionnaires and moderator guides.

  • Works with research and program implementation teams (BMC based and off-site), and the project and research directors, to coordinate fieldwork initiatives, and conduct pre-research and post-research analyses and evaluations.

  • Works with research team to facilitate & ensure protocol adherence, quality assurance and HIPAA compliance.

  • Oversees data collection onsite and offsite, summarizes and interprets data.

  • Collaborates with Principal Investigator to author journal articles and to present findings at research seminars, study groups and conferences.

 

Staff Management

  • Supervise support staff (e.g., Research Coordinators, Research Assistants, etc), including training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring, guiding through demonstration of best practices and offering opportunities for professional development.

  • Schedules and facilitates staff meetings. Plans agenda and ensures that minutes are taken, edited and distributed.

 

Administrative Duties

  • Assists the Principal Investigator with monitoring expenses, facilitating contracts, ordering materials and documenting all approved variances. Works with offsite team to oversee program expenses and offer guidance.

  • Liaises as necessary with Institutional Review Board (IRB) for submissions, correspondence, and regulatory binders, including administrative amendments.

  • Assists with development and writing of proposals to obtain funding for ongoing and future research activities.

  • Perform administrative duties associated with the study’s Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DMSB. Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Manage project-specific work such as data collection, hospital meetings, hospital maternity staff trainings, and similar work

  • Some travel will be required as much of the work occurs offsite. This may take the form of work in hospitals across the United States and its territories, or community-based work in project locations supporting those hospitals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management or field related to the project.

  • Advanced degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 (preferably 7+) years of progressively more responsible experience in research public health, health care administration and/or related field, including experience managing projects and operations.   

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, have exceptional oral communications and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, including budgeting, planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance, and reporting.

  • Experience in data analysis and manuscript preparation is helpful.

  • Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, and Excel is essential.

  • Must be a proactive problem solver with superb planning, program coordination, and leadership skills.

Compensation Range:

$83,000.00- $120,500.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
