The Problem

Every day, thousands of first responders rely on Flock's user-facing platform to investigate and solve crime. As our user base grows building the foundational infrastructure that powers customer onboarding, identity management, and ironclad privacy controls becomes a critical scaling challenge. We need a full-stack engineer to design and defend the software engines that form these vital customer touchpoints. You will architect intuitive web applications, high-performance APIs, and secure backend services that ensure a seamless, reliable experience for every user on the front lines.

What You'll Own
  • Architect and scale the core platform engines powering user onboarding, identity management, and granular privacy controls.

  • Build end-to-end web applications and resilient APIs using TypeScript, Node.js, and React to deliver intuitive user interfaces and robust backend logic.

  • Work across relational databases and varied data stores, writing complex SQL and designing scalable data models for mission-critical workflows.

  • Package applications with Docker and deploy microservices to Kubernetes via Helm, utilizing managed AWS infrastructure (S3, API Gateway, SQS).

  • Solve complex challenges around authentication, authorization, and data security to keep our public safety platform performant and secure.

What This Role Is Not
  • This isn't a front-end-only position. You will own the entire vertical stack—from crafting React user interfaces to designing database schemas and deploying backend microservices.

  • This is not a siloed maintenance role. You will build core platform features from scratch, solve complex identity and privacy architecture problems, and directly shape product growth.

  • This isn't a static engineering environment. You will work in a fast-paced setting where you take ambiguous problems, map out a plan of attack, and ship code that directly impacts public safety outcomes.

What You Bring
  • Strong experience building modern web applications and APIs using TypeScript, Node.js, and modern frontend frameworks (React preferred).

  • Solid database foundation with hands-on experience querying and structuring data across relational data stores using SQL.

  • Practical experience containerizing applications with Docker and deploying via Helm to Kubernetes environments.

  • Familiarity with core cloud services, including AWS S3, API Gateway, and SQS messaging queues.

  • A proactive approach to technical challenges, a commitment to code quality, and a drive to grow alongside a scaling organization.

Compensation

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $171,000 and $190,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.

Why Flock 💚

Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We're 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.

📍Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.

🌟 the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, email [email protected]; your information stays confidential and is used only to arrange the right accommodation for your interviews.

💰 On compensation: we pay fairly for the work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education, training, and market indicators. The range in this posting covers base salary only and doesn't include equity, sales bonus plans where applicable, or benefits. The range may be adjusted over time, and this posting may span more than one career level.

📣 One last thing: all legitimate communication from Flock comes from an email ending in @flocksafety.com or [email protected]. We never make offers through messaging apps or third parties, and we never request payment or sensitive personal information during hiring.
