About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Product UI Visual Designer to take our product experiences from rough structure to polished, production-ready visual design. Our products are trading systems, trading idea research management systems, and risk management systems built for the Front Office at hedge funds and asset management firms - data dense, highly transactional tools used by traders, portfolio managers, and analysts every day. You'll work primarily from wireframe schematics and rough AI-generated prototypes - turning that early-stage thinking into interfaces that are visually refined, consistent, and true to the CWAN Design System. This role also has a standing responsibility beyond individual projects: partnering with the team that maintains the CWAN Design System to propose, define, and document new design standards as our product surface area grows.

You'll sit at the intersection of craft and consistency - someone who can make a screen look and feel right, and who also cares about codifying why it's right so the whole design system gets stronger over time.

What You'll Do  : Visual design execution

  • Interpret wireframes, low-fidelity schematics, and rough AI-generated prototypes and translate them into high-fidelity, production-ready visual designs.

  • Apply and enforce our existing visual design standards - typography, color, spacing, iconography, elevation, and layout grids - across every screen you touch.

  • Make sound design judgment calls when a wireframe or AI prototype is ambiguous, incomplete, or visually inconsistent, resolving gaps without waiting for direction.

  • Prepare polished, developer-ready Figma files with clear specs, redlines, and component usage so engineering can build from your work with minimal back-and-forth.

  • Partner with product designers, product managers, and engineers to review work in progress and ensure visual quality holds up from concept through shipped feature.

Design system contribution

  • Work directly with the CWAN Design System team to identify gaps where current standards don't cover a new pattern, component, or use case.

  • Propose new or updated visual design standards (components, tokens, patterns, documentation) based on recurring needs you encounter in project work.

  • Contribute polished, system-ready component and pattern designs - not just one-off screen solutions, so new standards are reusable across the product.

  • Document rationale and usage guidance for new standards so other designers can apply them consistently without re-litigating the decision.

  • Give and incorporate feedback in design system reviews, and help audit existing product surfaces for drift from current standards.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in product/UI visual design, with a portfolio that demonstrates strong visual craft (typography, layout, color, hierarchy) applied to real product interfaces.

  • Proven ability to take low-fidelity input - wireframes, sketches, or AI-generated concepts and elevate it into refined, standards-compliant visual design.

  • Deep fluency in Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, and design tokens/variables.

  • Working knowledge of design systems: how components, tokens, and documentation fit together, and how design decisions scale across a product.

  • Sharp eye for visual consistency and the judgment to know when a new pattern deserves a system-level standard versus a one-off exception.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills - comfortable presenting and defending design decisions to designers, PMs, and engineers.

  • Comfort designing for dense, data-heavy professional workflows where information hierarchy, precision, and speed of comprehension matter as much as visual polish.

  • Adept at using AI tools to streamline design work and make updates to designs — e.g., familiarity with Claude to make updates to Figma designs, evaluate and refine AI-generated prototypes, draft design system documentation, and speed up day-to-day production work.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing financial services software - ideally trading systems, trading idea/research management systems, or risk management systems - for the Front Office at hedge funds or asset management firms.

  • Experience contributing directly to a formal design system or component library, in any capacity.

  • Front-end literacy (HTML/CSS fundamentals) sufficient to have informed conversations with engineers about implementation.

  • Experience with motion or interaction design for UI components.

  • Familiarity with Claude Design, and the ability to create and/or update Claude Code prototypes.

Tools & Ways of Working

Figma is our primary design tool, and the CWAN Design System is the shared source of truth for components, tokens, and patterns. AI tools — including Figma AI Design Agent, Figma Make, and Claude — are part of our everyday workflow, from making updates to Figma designs and evaluating rough AI-generated prototypes to speeding up documentation and production work, and proficiency with them is expected. Familiarity with Claude Design and Claude Code prototypes is a plus. You'll work closely with the CWAN Design System team on standards work, and with product designers and engineers on day-to-day screen work — often moving between the two in the same week.
