About Standard Bots
At Standard Bots, we’re revolutionizing real-world automation by making robotic systems accessible to everyone. Our AI-powered platform enables robots to tackle unprecedented challenges through an intuitive instruction interface, bringing the power of software automation to physical spaces. Designed and assembled in the U.S., our robots are programmed through simple demonstrations rather than complex coding.

About the Role
The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for the ongoing engineering support of Standard Bots’ production robot lines. This role owns the technical integrity of our products from production through field deployment—maintaining BOMs, drawings, and engineering documentation, driving part and design improvements, debugging production issues, and managing engineering change processes. You’ll act as the bridge between design engineering and the shop floor, ensuring that what we build matches what we designed and continuously gets better.

This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role that combines mechanical engineering fundamentals with production problem-solving. You’ll work closely with manufacturing operations, supply chain, quality, and design engineering to keep our products reliable, well-documented, and continuously improving.

What You'll Do
Product Sustaining & Engineering Documentation
• Own and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all production robot lines and control boxes, ensuring accuracy across revisions and product variants.
• Maintain and update engineering drawings, including part drawings, assemblies, and cable harness specifications.
• Drive the Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process from initiation through implementation, including BOM revisions and production validation.
• Manage part numbering, revision control, and documentation upkeep in the company’s PLM/MES systems.
Production Issue Resolution
• Debug and root-cause production issues such as noise, vibration, and assembly fit problems across robot arm joints and sub-assemblies.
•Work directly on the shop floor to diagnose failures, develop corrective actions, and validate fixes.
• Support End-of-Line (EOL) testing and failure analysis, identifying chronic vs. one-off issues and driving systemic solutions.
• Collaborate with design engineering to feed production learnings back into future product improvements.
Supplier & Part Management
• Manage supplier communications for production parts, including sourcing, quoting, sample validation, and ongoing quality feedback.
• Support incoming quality control (IQC) processes and work with the receiving inspection team to define acceptance criteria.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, alternate sourcing, and supply chain risk mitigation across the BOM.
• Validate and qualify new parts and vendors through testing and documentation. Prototype & NPI Support
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by preparing BOMs, drawings, and engineering packages for new product variants and design iterations.
• Participate in prototype builds, providing hands-on engineering support during assembly and testing.
• Create and maintain build validation tools and checklists to ensure production readiness for new configurations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with manufacturing operations leads and area leads to provide timely engineering support for production blockers.
• Work with the production engineering team on process improvements, tooling, and test fixture development.
• Interface with the applications and field support teams to understand field failure modes and incorporate feedback into sustaining improvements.
What You'll Bring
• Have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• Bring 1–3 years of experience in a sustaining engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production support role—ideally in hardware or electromechanical products.
• Are highly detail-oriented and organized, with a track record of keeping complex documentation accurate and up to date.
• Have hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies, root-cause analysis, and debugging hardware issues.
• Are comfortable working with BOMs, engineering drawings (SolidWorks or similar), and revision control systems.
•Communicate effectively with suppliers, production technicians, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment where you’re expected to move quickly, own problems end-to-end, and continuously improve how things work.
Nice to Have
• Experience with robotics, actuators, or electromechanical systems.
• Familiarity with MES platforms, PLM tools, or production data systems.
• Experience with PCB-level debugging or electronics integration.
• Exposure to supply chain management, vendor qualification, or IQC processes.
• Comfort using AI-assisted tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to accelerate documentation and engineering workflows.
Tools & Systems
• SolidWorks (drawings, assemblies, part models)
• Marvin (internal MES/PLM system for BOMs, parts, and serial tracking)
• Asana (project and task management)
• Notion (documentation and knowledge base)
• Supplier communication and sourcing platforms
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level while taking into account internal parity with our own team. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full- time employees.
