From blockchain pioneers to innovative healthcare firms, the city's tech landscape is a hotbed of innovation and progress. Built In NYC is highlighting ten standout companies that are redefining the New York tech scene.

 

 

Committed to institutionalizing digital asset investing, Hivemind Capital Partners is a Web3 and blockchain technology investment firm. 

 

New and growing. Established in 2021, Hivemind is headquartered in the Midtown South Flatiron District, but has offices around the globe. Geared for growth, it has an onboarding process that includes 30-, 60- and 90-day plans, plus an “onboarding buddy.”

Onboarding excellence. “The onboarding buddy is a great resource for any and all questions that new hires have as they continue getting acclimated,” shared Marketing Manager Madison Mariani in a recent article. “Starting a new job can be intimidating and nerve-wracking. Especially in a startup environment, it can feel overwhelming jumping right in and tackling everything all at once. The onboarding program helps ease those nerves by fostering a culture of open dialogue.”

Perks and diverse. Providing a 401(K) plan and a full selection of health insurance and wellness benefits, Hivemind also offers health, dental, vision, disability, life and pet insurance as well as mental health benefits and a flexible spending account. Transparent sustainability. “It’s important that in advertising we don’t ‘grade our own homework,’” writes David Mead, vice president of global partnerships, in a recent article. Hungryroot is an AI-powered personal grocer that saves shoppers time and money and allows them to shop sustainably, through predictive, personalized grocery delivery.

 

Talented people. The company has a distributed team of top talent working across ten US states, with an office based in New York City. Melanie Narine, who serves as principal product manager on the company’s digital team, endeavors to improve digital customer experiences by observing customer UX/UI feedback on their Facebook group. Working cross-functionally with engineering, quality assurance and analytic teams, she remarked in a recent article. “I’ve never worked with such a kind and talented group of people who deeply care about making every customer’s experience a delightful one.”

Flexible hours and spaces. Offering a generous parental leave policy, financial perks (401(k) and company equity), a full suite of health insurance and wellness benefits, unlimited vacation plus paid holidays and sick days, and ongoing training, the firm also believes in fostering a company culture that enriches life at work as well as outside the office. The company has been named to the Forbes Cloud 100 list and was named to Inc. magazine’s 2023 list of Best Workplaces in the Established Excellence category.

Investors are enthused. With a recent infusement of $95 million in funding, the company is expanding into new verticals and team growth serving some of the largest and most recognized in financial services brands includingCapitalOne, American Express and Customers Bank

The company’s vice president of people, Stephanie Spiegel, said in a recent article. “Wellness benefits for physical, mental and emotional health are table stakes at Enigma.” Based on employee feedback, Enigma now grants every employee a monthly $100 wellness stipend that can be used on anything that promotes personal health, including massages, acupuncture treatments and workout gear. “It’s a choose-your-own-wellness adventure,” she added.

Top talent preferred. The company is a standout for its ability to find great workers. ”In an ever-changing job market, it’s vital for employers to keep employees happy in order to attract and retain top talent,” Danielle Tafik, content marketing manager at the company, wrote in a recent article. She cites research showing that the company’s brand ranks very high in making it a preferred employer.

Hybrid work supported. The monday.com brand includes a generous collection of compensation and benefits packages. They include 401(k) and 401(k) matching, company equity, performance bonuses, and charitable contribution matching. Howl

Howl is a new marketplace designed for creators and brands who crave transparent collaboration and implement tools designed for individuals who understand that scale and progress emerge through collaborative efforts.

This empowers them to participate in activities like design sprints, fostering problem-solving collaborations among engineers, product managers, and leadership stakeholders.“Our team uses design sprints when we want to work through a loosely defined epic or problem statement,” Cody Cai, a senior systems designer, said in a recent Built In NY article. “It’s expected to have objectives, key results and deliverables identified.”

With headquarters in Soho Square, company employees enjoy a hybrid remote and on-site workplace policy. “We’ve chosen to be hybrid because it allows us to meet everyone where they are,” Minni Kahlon, a Flatiron employee experience manager, recently told Built In NY. “The majority of our workforce is based in NYC and comes to the office two times a week. They experience our vibrant headquarters to enjoy a meal with colleagues, collaborate in person and celebrate accomplishments.” 

Employee health prioritized. As a healthcare company, it should be no surprise that Flatiron health-related benefits are generous and comprehensive. Those include health, disability, dental, vision and life insurance as well as a flexible spending account, mental health benefits, and wellness programs. Flatiron also provides an unlimited vacation policy, generous PTO and paid holidays.

 

 

Boisson

Boisson is a non-alcoholic beverage retailer that makes drinking more positive and inclusive with its highly curated product selections from around the world.

 

A community on a mission. With a product that is expressly designed to make non-alcoholic drinkers still part of the party, it should come as no surprise that the company places value on education, experimentation, collaboration, community and trust.

Remote workers love it. Boisson also maintains an open door policy and remote work program, as seen in its flexible remote and hybrid scheduling policies. Lori Wilkinson-Gray, supplier development manager at the company, told Built In New York,  that this fits her life quite well. “The lack of commute to and from an office has given me so much time back,” she said. “I’m getting more sleep, and overall I am more alert and happier during my workday.” 

Health is everything. Benefits at the company are comprehensive. They include a 401(k) plan, company equity, dental, vision, health, wellness programs, and life insurance. This is in addition to a fitness stipend, company sponsored happy hours, a pet-friendly policy and an unlimited vacation policy.

The company is on a solid growth trajectory — fueled in part by $12 million in seed funding in 2022 — with distribution expansions to “30 to 35 locations in ten markets by the end of 2023,” according to co-founder Nick Bodkins in a recent Built In NY article.
