Contract Attorney - NYPD Federal Mentorship

About the Role 

We are seeking a highly skilled Contract Attorney to support the NYPD federal monitorship. This role requires exceptional legal research and writing abilities, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment. The attorney will contribute to ongoing monitoring, compliance review, and reporting responsibilities related to the federal oversight process. 

Position Details: 

• Location: New York, NY (Onsite) 

• Anticipated Duration: 1 year (subject to change)

• Start Date: June 2026

• Pay Rate: $48–$59 per hour 

• Schedule: Primarily 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (with some flexibility required) 

Key Responsibilities 

• Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft high‑quality memoranda, reports, and written analyses 

• Review, analyze, and summarize legal documents, policies, and compliance materials 

• Support the monitorship team in evaluating NYPD practices and adherence to federal requirements 

• Assist with preparation of written findings, recommendations, and formal reports 

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and maintain accurate documentation 

• Manage workload effectively while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of accuracy 

Qualifications 

• Licensed in the state of New York is required 

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school 

• Strong legal research and writing skills (required) 

• Admission to federal court preferred 

• Experience level is flexible — candidates must demonstrate excellent research and writing experience, regardless of years in practice 

• Ability to work onsite in New York, NY 

• Flexibility with work hours; standard schedule is 10 AM–6 PM 

Additional Information 

This is a full‑time, onsite contract role with a one‑year term. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting the federal monitorship’s mission and ensuring high‑quality legal analysis and reporting.
