About the Role

The Safety Risk Measurement & Insights Lead owns how Uber defines, measures, and reasons about safety risk on the platform. This role makes us smart about measurement itself — ensuring that our indicators of safety risk (both outcome metrics like Safety Incident Rate and the leading, input, and predictive signals that precede harm) are well-defined, governed, trusted, and continuously improved, and then translating them into clear, actionable insight for business leadership and external reporting.

This role sits at the center of Analytics, Operations, and cross-functional partners to unify metric definitions, strengthen data quality, accelerate insight generation, and improve how safety performance is understood and acted upon across the organization. This role will also help shape how Safety uses smarter tooling and AI-enabled workflows to scale measurement, analytics, and reporting.

What You’ll Do

Metric Governance & Foundations:  Drive governance for Safety’s most critical metrics, including Incident Rate and leading indicators of safety risk. Recommend durable definitions, inclusion/exclusion logic, auditability, lineage, and consistency over time. Ensure metric frameworks remain credible as the platform, product, and risk landscape evolve.

Data Quality & Measurement Integrity: Serve as Safety's measurement steward - lead end-to-end accountability for the quality and reliability of safety data. Partner with DS / Eng / Ops to resolve issues, and establish clear monitoring and escalation mechanisms that improve trust in reported safety outcomes.

Analytical Investigation, Insight Generation & Business Translation: Lead deep dives into performance shifts, emerging risks, and measurement anomalies, combining quantitative analysis with operational context to identify what is happening, why it is happening, and what Safety should do next; then turn those insights into crisp, credible narratives that help leaders make decisions, prioritize investments, and communicate clearly to senior stakeholders.

AI-Enabled Insights & Scalable Workflows: Define and advance the future state of Safety analytics by identifying opportunities to automate recurring analysis, improve self-serve access, and use AI-enabled workflows to accelerate insight generation without compromising rigor

Safety Ops Enablement:  Enable Safety Operations and regional partners to use trusted safety metrics consistently and effectively. Build or shape dashboards, reporting tools, education materials, and analytical resources that improve understanding, speed up decision-making, and strengthen stakeholder influence.

Reporting & Decision Support: Ensure executive- and external-facing reporting is rigorous, defensible, and efficient, with clear underlying methodology and a consistent measurement framework.

 What You’ll Need

  • Analytical Leadership & Data Acumen: Strong analytical foundation with the ability to understand statistical concepts, challenge assumptions, partner credibly with Data Science, and turn complex data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Business Acumen & Strategic Thinking: Strong understanding of the broader business context and Safety’s role within it, with the ability to frame trends, tradeoffs, and recommendations in a way that supports executive decision-making.
  • Influence & Communication: Excellent communicator and storyteller with a track record of building trust, influencing cross-functional stakeholders, and driving alignment without direct authority.
  • Systems Thinking: Able to understand end-to-end processes, dependencies, and organizational dynamics to identify root causes and durable solutions.
  • AI & Analytical Innovation: Curious and practical user of AI, automation, or emerging analytical tools to accelerate insight generation, improve decision-making, and scale analytical work.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in analytics, strategy, business operations, data science, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Engineering , Data Science, Finance or technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Trust & Safety, Risk, Marketplace Integrity, Fraud, or other complex operational domains.
  • Experience at a technology platform, marketplace, gig economy, e-commerce, social media, dating, or similar trust-based ecosystem.
  • Experience defining, governing, or evolving critical business metrics used by senior leadership.
  • Experience building self-service analytics, measurement frameworks, or analytical products.
  • Track record of coaching, educating, or upskilling teams on analytical concepts and best practices.
  • Experience driving accountability and raising the quality bar for insight generation across an organization.
  • PHD in Economics, Engineering , Data science, Finance or technical field.
Why This Role Matters

This role ensures Safety has the measurement foundations it needs to make good decisions, hold the right line on rigor, and communicate performance credibly inside and outside the company. It is both a governance role and an insight role: trusted numbers, better decisions, stronger execution.
