The primary responsibility of the VP, Sales is to lead and direct a sales team to meet or exceed sales revenue and profitability objectives. The role involves strategic planning, managing people, selling, leveraging technology and improving upon and executing processes. This role is a key member of the senior management team.


The VP, Sales helps create and execute the organization's go-to-market and operational strategies to achieve the sales plan. They participate with the executive team in developing the strategy for the enterprise and establish KPIs such as forecast accuracy/revenue attainment versus plan, average deal size, pipeline coverage and close rate, and length of the sales cycle as ways to monitor success. They must anticipate and respond to trends and changes in company sales performance and set the professional tone of the sales organization. Monthly business reviews are conducted so pivots and adjustments can be made to keep on target. They manage and directly participate in sales negotiations, attend customer presentations and help close deals. They will partner closely with marketing to develop effective business development and a lead generation program to ensure a steady stream of leads flow to sellers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Creating plans and strategies for developing business and achieving the company’s sales goals
  • Implementing a culture of high-performance, energy, success, and ongoing business and goal achievement 
  • Managing the sales teams, operations and resources to deliver profitable growth
  • Defining an optimal sales force structure
  • Hiring sales staff by becoming known as an employer of choice and a sales team that top sales people want to join
  • Helping define and oversee sales staff compensation and incentive programs that motivate the sales team to achieve their sales targets
  • Managing the use of budgets
  • Defining and coordinating sales training programs that enable staff to achieve their potential and support company sales objectives
  • Managing customer expectations and contribute to a high level of new customer satisfaction
  • Defining sales processes that drive desired sales outcomes and identify improvements where and when required
  • Helping put infrastructure and systems in place to support the success of the sales function
  • Driving accurate sales forecasting
  • Compiling information and data related to customer and prospect interactions
  • Monitoring customer, market and competitor activity and provide feedback to company leadership team and other company functions
  • Working closely with the marketing function to establish successful support, channel and partner programs
  • Managing key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities
  • Traveling for in-person meetings with customers and partners and to develop key relationships

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience selling Healthcare Payer Software and Services, SaaS experience is a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience managing a sales team consisting of Regional Sales Executives, Sales Development Representatives, and other Sales Support.
  • Strong experience building and growing a go-to-market strategy, corporate sales plan, and a channel.
  • Successful experience monitoring and evaluating sales rep progress against stated expectations, in addition to aligning and changing behavior with performance expectations.
  • Excellent understanding of managing key customer relationships and closing strategic opportunities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing a CRM to manage team sales tasks, pipeline, and closing data.
  • Experience hiring and onboarding sales representatives.
  • Experience building and managing a territory plan, including target account prioritization and execution of plan strategies.
  • Experience providing status reports with market and customer feedback to the corporate leadership team.
