Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) helps drive profitable business growth by reducing credit and fraud risk while maintaining customers' confidence in the security of American Express products. The Digital Risk Products & Data Strategy organization builds digital software products that support risk decisions across the customer lifecycle, including onboarding, authorizations and servicing.

The Senior Associate, Digital Product Management will serve as a Product Analyst supporting the Product Owner in the execution of fraud risk assessment and authentication capabilities. The role will work day-to-day with Engineering, Fraud Risk, Product, Data/Analytics and other partners to convert business and risk needs into well-defined, testable software requirements and to help move work from discovery through development, testing, launch and post-production monitoring.

This role is execution-oriented. It requires strong product analysis, requirements management, Agile delivery and technical collaboration skills, with enough understanding of authentication and fraud-risk concepts to connect business intent to engineering implementation. Exposure to emerging AI- or agent-enabled commerce is helpful but is not the primary focus of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Product Manager in executing the product roadmap and prioritized backlog for fraud risk assessment and authentication capabilities.

  • Partner with the Product Owner, business stakeholders and Engineering to clarify scope, decompose capabilities into epics/features/stories, document dependencies and define clear acceptance criteria and Definition of Done expectations.

  • Create and maintain functional requirements, process flows, data mappings, business rules, interface requirements, decision tables, error/exception scenarios and other artifacts needed for engineering execution.

  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, demos and retrospectives; surface blockers, requirement gaps, risks and cross-team dependencies early.

  • Serve as a day-to-day requirements contact for engineers and testers, answer questions promptly, facilitate decisions with the Product Owner and stakeholders, and maintain traceability from business need through delivered functionality.

  • Support prioritization by providing analysis of customer impact, fraud/risk impact, delivery complexity, dependencies, defects and operational needs; prepare options and tradeoffs for Product Owner decisions.

  • Partner with Fraud Risk and analytics teams to translate fraud strategies, risk signals and decisioning needs into consumable product and technology requirements without prescribing model design.

  • Support authentication capabilities across relevant customer journeys, including enrollment/setup, authentication events, risk-based or step-up authentication, exception handling, recovery and servicing.

  • Work with Engineering and Architecture to understand APIs, request/response fields, events, identifiers, data contracts, integration dependencies, logging/telemetry and non-functional requirements for real-time risk and authentication services.

  • Develop test scenarios and support functional, integration and user acceptance testing; validate that delivered functionality meets acceptance criteria and help triage defects with Engineering and business partners.

  • Support release readiness and implementation activities, including dependency tracking, test evidence, documentation, controls, operational readiness, production validation and post-launch issue management.

  • Analyze product metrics, defects, production incidents, fraud outcomes and customer/servicing feedback to identify gaps and translate findings into backlog items and product/process improvements.

  • Maintain clear product documentation and status reporting in tools such as JIRA and Confluence, including decisions, requirements, risks, issues, dependencies and action items.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify product processes, improve requirement quality, reduce rework and strengthen collaboration between Product, Risk and Engineering.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in digital product development, product analysis, business analysis, risk technology, payments, authentication, fraud technology or a related field.

  • Experience gathering/documenting requirements and supporting software delivery through development, testing and launch.

  • Ability to drive project deliverables, work effectively in cross-functional teams and operate independently on sophisticated or unstructured initiatives.

  • Strong analytical, structured problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Customer-centered mindset and ability to partner with business and technology teams.

  • Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum practices and iterative product development.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint; exposure to Java, Python, SAS, Hive, low-code/rule-authoring tools or similar technologies is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a Product Owner or Product Manager and working directly with software engineering and QA teams.

  • Exposure to card payments, authorizations, e-commerce, digital identity, payment authentication, fraud prevention, account security or real-time risk decisioning.

  • Experience with APIs, data mapping, process modeling, rule-authoring platforms, prototyping, testing or production monitoring.

  • Familiarity with risk-based authentication, device or behavioral signals, identity federation, credentials/tokens or related authentication concepts.

  • Exposure to AI-enabled commerce or machine-to-machine interactions is helpful but not required.

  • Master's degree in a technical, quantitative, business or related field is a plus.
