Kasisto brought in $15 million to expand its financially-savvy chatbot. The company said its customers, which include JP Morgan Chase, Mastercard and Standard Chartered, experience a 50 percent reduction in call center volume because Kasisto’s conversational AI platform KAI can answer up to 90 percent of users’ financial questions without help from a human. Cooks Venture raised $12 million — and designed its own chicken. This AgTech startup, founded by Blue Apron co-founder Matthew Wadiak, used selective breeding to create a chicken that can digest feed other than corn. Given that 25 percent of corn grown in the U.S. is used for chicken feed, and corn farming is a primary cause of topsoil erosion, the company’s approach could help abate global climate change by retaining carbon in the soil. BigID raised $50 million to help companies protect people’s privacy. It also announced a new privacy platform where its customers can view and manage all the data they’ve gathered from disparate sources on individual consumers. From state governments to town councils, privacy in the age of Big Data is on the minds of many. BigID’s latest funding round shows the investor community is taking notice. [TechCrunch]
